Join the future of news

We’re on a mission to deliver riveting storytelling for all of America. At The Washington Post, you’ll help reinvent news. Our work is driven by a deep investigative spirit and enhanced by innovation to bring audiences closer to the stories that matter most.

About Our Team

The Washington Post is powered by the passion and talent of our people. It takes all of us to reinvent news. Beyond our award-winning Newsroom and Opinions teams, we work across many departments, including Brand & Events, Communications, Customer Care, Engineering & Product, Finance, Human Resources, Legal, Marketing & Advertising, Print Operations, and Sales.

Why This Role Matters

The Washington Post is seeking a world-class journalist to serve as a Correspondent-at-Large, delivering authoritative reporting on the most consequential global stories.

This is a high-profile role for an experienced and versatile reporter who can move quickly to the center of major geopolitical developments and produce agenda-setting journalism from the ground. The Correspondent-at-Large will operate as a roving presence across global hotspots — covering breaking news, producing sweeping analysis and delivering vivid, on-the-scene reporting that helps readers understand a rapidly shifting world.

We are looking for a journalist with the experience, judgment and range to cover everything from elections and diplomatic negotiations to conflict zones, economic summits and major cultural moments. The ideal candidate combines deep reporting experience with a strong narrative voice, capable of delivering both high-level accountability reporting and immersive, scene-driven storytelling.

This role will work across desks and coverage areas, partnering with correspondents, editors and visual teams around the world to produce journalism that is ambitious, insightful and globally resonant.

This position is based out of our London office and requires frequent international travel.

What Motivates You:

  • You are driven to be on the ground where history is unfolding.
  • You thrive in fast-moving, high-stakes environments and are eager to take on complex global stories.
  • You are curious about power — how it operates across borders, institutions and cultures.
  • You are equally comfortable producing sharp analysis and richly reported narrative dispatches.
  • You are collaborative and energized by working across teams and time zones.

How You’ll Support the Mission:

  • Travel frequently to cover major breaking geopolitical stories and developments worldwide.
  • Produce authoritative news analysis and accountability reporting on global political, economic and diplomatic trends.
  • Cover national, regional and international elections, illuminating their stakes and consequences.
  • Report on high-level diplomatic developments, including negotiations, summits and ceasefire talks.
  • Cover major international gatherings, including geopolitical, business and economic conferences.
  • Report on cultural and global events when they intersect with broader political or societal trends.
  • Profile world leaders and other key actors shaping global events.
  • Deliver vivid, scene-driven dispatches from locations at the center of the news, helping readers understand events as they unfold.
  • Collaborate closely with international bureaus, editors and visual teams to produce ambitious, multi-format storytelling.

The Skills and Experiences You Bring:

  • At least 15 years of reporting experience at a major news organization, including experience as an international correspondent or bureau chief.
  • A proven track record of producing high-impact journalism on global affairs.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate independently in complex, fast-moving and sometimes high-risk environments.
  • Exceptional reporting, writing and storytelling skills, with the ability to move between breaking news, analysis and narrative.
  • Deep understanding of international politics, diplomacy and global power dynamics.
  • Strong judgment, editorial instincts and a commitment to accuracy, fairness and the highest journalistic standards.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across teams, regions and time zones.

Interested candidates should upload a résumé, cover letter and three examples of their work [as PDFs] to our jobs portal by Mar. 31. The cover letter should be addressed to International Editor David Herszenhorn, Deputy Politics & Government Editor Emily Rauhala and Politics & Government Editor Nick Baumann.

The salary range for this position is $137,300.00 - $228,900.00. The actual starting salary within this range will depend on individual skills, experience and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements.

Collaboration makes us stronger. That’s why our offices are designed with open layouts, modern technology, and easy access to transportation. With certain exceptions for newsgathering and business travel, we work on-site five days a week.
