The Role
We’re looking for a seasoned litigator to be the last set of eyes on our motions and appellate briefs before they’re filed. This is not a rubber-stamp role. We want someone who will challenge our arguments, find the weak points before opposing counsel or the court does, and help turn good drafts into winning papers.
Responsibilities
- Review and finalize motions, briefs, and appellate submissions, including substance, structure, and polish
- Critically evaluate legal arguments and positions, and flag weaknesses, gaps, and counterarguments
- Verify citations, record references, and compliance with court rules and formatting requirements
- Suggest stronger authority, framing, and strategy where warranted
- Join weekly Zoom meetings to discuss case, motion, and appeal strategy
- Turn work around reliably under tight filing deadlines
Requirements
- Admitted to practice in New York, in good standing
- 10 years of litigation experience, with substantial motion practice and/or appellate experience
- Exceptional legal writing, editing, and analytical skills
- Comfortable giving direct, candid critique
- Proven ability to meet hard deadlines; some time-sensitive turnarounds will be required
- Reliable availability for a weekly Zoom and responsive communication
Preferred
- Appellate Division (especially Second Department) and/or Court of Appeals experience
- Experience with Article 78, FOIL, or election law matters
- Familiarity with practice management software (we use MyCase)
Why Join
- Fully remote, flexible schedule within deadline demands
- Meaningful, varied appellate and motion work
- Direct collaboration with the firm’s principal on strategy
