Overview
The Amazon Demand & Inventory Planner owns end-to-end demand forecasting, inventory planning, and replenishment execution for The Vitamin Shoppe's Amazon channel. This role is responsible for maintaining optimal weeks of supply targets, ensuring timely inbound replenishment, and proactively supporting sales growth across all SKU tiers within the Amazon marketplace
The ideal candidate is highly analytical, detail-oriented, and comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment where data-driven decisions directly impact revenue, margin, and customer experience. They will serve as the single point of accountability for Amazon inventory health and will integrate into the broader enterprise inventory cadence.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain SKU-level demand forecasts for Amazon using historical sales data, velocity trends, seasonality, promotional calendars, and market signals.
- Develop and refine forecasting models that account for Amazon-specific dynamics including advertising spend impact, deal events (Prime Day, Black Friday), and organic rank fluctuations.
- Analyze forecast accuracy, bias, and error on a regular cadence; continuously improve assumptions and inputs.
- Create dedicated demand plans and Open-to-Buy (OTB) specific to Amazon FBA that support long lead-time products and prevent channel imbalance.
- Own inventory health for the Amazon channel: prevent stockouts, overstock, stranded inventory, and aged inventory exposure.
- Manage tiered inventory coverage aligned to the FBA strategy:
- Plan purchase orders and coordinate with suppliers & internal planning teams on production timelines, lead times, and delays.
- Manage FBA inbound shipment planning to maintain target WOS at Amazon fulfillment centers.
- Pull, analyze, and reconcile Amazon Seller Central reports including sales, inventory, inbound, and receiving data.
- Monitor and report on key performance indicators: In-Stock %, WOS, Fulfillment %, Inventory Turns, Aged Inventory %.
- Conduct unit economics and profitability analysis and recommend actions when margins fall below target.
- Maintain a weekly risk heat map to identify and mitigate top risks including capacity reductions, viral demand spikes, supplier delays, and price competition.
- Drive operational readiness for major events (Prime Day, BFCM, seasonal peaks) through early forecasting, purchase order placement, FBA capacity confirmation, and surge inventory planning.
- Develop and execute product phase-in and phase-out plans aligned to the Amazon product lifecycle.
- Partner closely with inventory planning teams and manufacturers and internal using a S&IOP approach to reduce inbound variability and optimize service levels.
- Collaborate with Merchandise Planning, Merchandising, Supply Chain, Private Brand, Finance, and Operations teams to align inventory plans with enterprise goals.
- Leverage Relex (planning system), Amazon Seller Central, BI tools, and data platforms to drive insight and efficiency.
- Leverage system alerts and analytics to quickly identify low coverage, inbound delays, and aging inventory.
- Identify opportunities to automate reporting, forecasting inputs, and decision workflows.
Qualifications
Skill and Ability:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Finance, Analytics, Statistics, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
- 4-6 years of experience in demand planning, inventory management, or supply chain roles, with direct Amazon FBA or marketplace experience strongly preferred.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to synthesize large data sets into actionable insights.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Hands-on experience with Amazon Seller Central (strongly preferred).
- Working knowledge of Relex or other demand planning/replenishment systems preferred.
- Outstanding organizational skills with superior attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and shift between projects without a loss of overall quality.
- Proactive mindset with a bias toward action; identifies risks early and proposes solutions before they impact sales.
