What are the responsibilities and job description for the Video & Content Intern position at The Vision Detroit?
Company Description
The Vision Detroit is a grassroots arts nonprofit dedicated to supporting developing creatives and strengthening Detroit’s creative community. We create platforms, programs, and storytelling opportunities that uplift local artists and connect art with community.
Role Overview
The Vision Detroit is seeking a Video Content Intern (Unpaid) to help bring our work to life through video. You’ll work closely with our team, supporting content creation and editing across events, interviews, and creative media, while collaborating with our Director of Communications, Layla McMurtrie.
We host a wide range of events and capture a lot of content—we’re looking for someone who can help transform that raw footage into engaging, consistent visual storytelling. This is a hybrid role based in Detroit with a flexible commitment. Most work is remote, with opportunities to attend events when available.
Responsibilities
- Edit video recaps from events (open mics, showcases, festivals, etc.)
- Edit short-form content (Instagram Reels, TikToks, YouTube Shorts)
- Edit artist interviews and mini-doc style content
- Assist with filming at events (phone or camera)
- Organize and manage video footage
- Collaborate with the team on creative direction and storytelling
- Support broader content and media efforts as needed
Ideal Candidates Are:
- Passionate about Detroit, art, and the city’s creative community
- Skilled in or familiar with video editing tools (CapCut, Premiere Pro, Final Cut, etc.)
- Strong storytellers with a good sense of pacing, music, and visuals
- Organized, dependable, and able to meet deadlines
- Comfortable shooting content on a phone or camera
- Interested in media, storytelling, or creative production
- Open to learning and contributing in a collaborative environment
What You’ll Gain
- Hands-on experience with a growing grassroots arts nonprofit
- Opportunities to build your portfolio with real-world, high-visibility content
- Creative input and ownership over projects
- Connections with artists and creatives across Detroit
- Mentorship and experience in arts, media, and nonprofit work
Important Note
This is an unpaid internship with a grassroots, early-stage nonprofit. It’s ideal for students, recent graduates, or emerging creatives seeking hands-on experience, mentorship, and real responsibility. While we aim to secure funding for paid roles in the future, we are currently a volunteer-run organization.
