Position Overview
The Host at Hickory is the first point of contact for guests, setting the tone for a warm, polished, and professional dining experience. This role manages reservations, guest greetings, and seating assignments while supporting front-of-house operations to ensure efficient service and a memorable experience for every guest.
Key Responsibilities
- Warmly greet and welcome guests upon arrival, ensuring a positive first impression.
- Manage reservations and walk-ins using the restaurant’s reservation system; communicate accurate wait times and seating expectations.
- Escort guests to their tables, present menus, and accommodate seating preferences when possible.
- Maintain real-time awareness of table status, guest flow, and server sections to optimize seating efficiency and table turnover.
- Coordinate closely with servers, bartenders, and management to balance guest flow and uphold service standards.
- Answer phone calls promptly and professionally, providing information on hours, menu, and policies; assist with takeout inquiries as needed.
- Maintain cleanliness and presentation of the host stand, entrance, and waiting areas at all times.
- Assist in setting the tone of the dining room by ensuring a welcoming ambiance and organized front-of-house environment.
- Support the front-of-house team during peak service periods, private events, and special functions.
- Communicate guest needs, requests, and feedback to management promptly and appropriately.
Qualifications
Required:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience: Minimum 1 year in a restaurant or guest service role.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly, multitask efficiently, and maintain professionalism in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred:
- Prior experience as a host or in hospitality within a fine dining or upscale setting.
- Familiarity with restaurant reservation systems (e.g., OpenTable, Resy, or similar).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
- Friendly, polished, and professional demeanor with a genuine passion for guest service.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills; able to manage guest flow smoothly under pressure.
- Effective communicator who works collaboratively with both front- and back-of-house teams.
- Detail-oriented and observant, with the ability to anticipate guest needs.
- Calm and composed in fast-paced or high-volume situations.
Work Environment / Physical Requirements
- Fast-paced restaurant environment with constant guest interaction.
- Requires standing and walking for extended periods.
- Occasional lifting up to 20 lbs.
- Evening, weekend, and holiday availability required.
