Prep Cook

The Virginia Beer Company is opening our second location, The Kitchen, at 7120 George Washington Memorial Highway in Yorktown.

Calling all prep cooks We are seeking energetic applicants to work collaboratively in this new space. We are slated to open our doors in the new year and are looking to build a team of folks interested in contributing to our company pillars of Beer, People, & Purpose

The Kitchen is a brewpub-in-planning with an expected opening timeline of late January 2026.

Role Responsibilities

● Prepare ingredients according to recipes and menu specifications

● Assist with meal preparation, including cooking dishes

● Follow health code and sanitation rules to ensure a clean and safe kitchen environment

● Change fryers and filter oil

● Properly store and handle ingredients

● Maintain a clean work space

● Collaborate with kitchen team to ensure timely execution of food preparation

● Attend all scheduled employee meetings

● Act as a positive community representative for VBC — in person and online

Role Qualifications

● Ability to lift at least 30 pounds with no assistance

● Strong knowledge of food preparation, cooking techniques, and food handling safety standards

● Proficiency in menu planning and meal assembly

● Excellent knife skills and familiarity with culinary tools and equipment

● Previous restaurant or kitchen experience within the food industry preferred

● Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced environment

● Good organizational skills with attention to detail

● Knowledge of food safety regulations and sanitation practices

● Ability to follow instructions accurately and work as part of a team

● Positive attitude, punctuality, and the willingness to learn

● Open availability including nights and weekends

● Must be 18 years of age or older

~ Reports to: Retail & Hospitality Manager, General Manager, Kitchen Manager

Position Considerations

~ This location has been a long-time coming so we expect a fast start once the doors & taps are finally open. We want to build a team around individuals who are passionate about food service and want to help us make The Kitchen a welcoming space for all.

~ A brewpub features on-site brewing and an in-house kitchen. Knowledge of and interest in creating something special from scratch is important

~ Please note that this role will require quite a bit of flexibility to start. From hiring & training, then working to help get this long-awaited brewpub open, we expect that everyone will need to be nimble to make this opening a success.

~ The Virginia Beer Company offers competitive compensation commensurate with the industry, role, area, and candidate experience. This position is hourly (with overtime pay for any hours worked over 40 hours in a week…which would only happen in select circumstances as discussed & agreed upon with a supervisor).
