About the Role
The VIRATA Group is seeking a highly capable Public Safety / EMS Project Specialist to support an upcoming EMS operational improvement and compliance engagement. This role is ideal for a professional with experience in EMS, fire services, emergency response operations, or municipal public safety environments who can support data gathering, requirements alignment, documentation, and field assessments.
The position is based in Virginia and will require regular travel to client locations throughout the state (and occasional travel out of state, depending on project needs).
Responsibilities- Support project workstreams related to EMS, fire, and public safety operational assessments.
- Assist in gathering technical requirements, operational data, and regulatory compliance information.
- Participate in onsite assessments, interviews, and process observations with first responders and municipal stakeholders.
- Prepare documentation, summaries, and compliance response materials for RFPs and proposals.
- Help analyze current-state workflows and identify opportunities for operational improvement.
- Collaborate closely with The VIRATA Group’s consulting team to develop recommendations, implementation plans, and deliverables.
- Coordinate schedules, travel, and logistics for fieldwork.
- Represent The VIRATA Group professionally with public-sector clients, municipalities, and emergency response departments.
- Background in EMS, Fire, Public Safety, Emergency Management, or related fields (required).
- Familiarity with municipal or county-level emergency response operations.
- Ability to interpret and summarize operational, regulatory, and compliance requirements.
- Strong communication and documentation skills.
- Comfortable working independently onsite with clients and in field environments.
- Ability and willingness to travel frequently within Virginia and potentially neighboring states.
- Prior consulting experience is a plus but not required.
- EMT, Paramedic, Firefighter, or similar certification (active or previous).
- Experience supporting RFP responses, public sector proposals, or operational audits.
- Exposure to Lean, process improvement, or operations optimization.
- Direct interaction with municipal leadership, public safety command staff, or emergency medical directors.
