The Villages Rehabilitation and Nursing Center is looking for an RN (Registered Nurse) to join their Team as the Assistant Director of Nursing!


Position Summary

The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) supports the Director of Nursing (DON) in the overall management, supervision, and coordination of nursing services within the skilled nursing facility. The ADON assists in ensuring residents receive high-quality, compassionate, and clinically appropriate care in accordance with federal and Florida requirements, facility policies, and accepted standards of nursing practice.

The ADON serves as a clinical and operational leader for the nursing department, providing guidance to licensed nurses and Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs), supporting staff development and accountability, assisting with quality improvement initiatives, and helping maintain facility readiness for regulatory surveys.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist the Director of Nursing with the daily operation and oversight of the nursing department.

  • Support the development, implementation, and evaluation of nursing policies, procedures, and standards of care.

  • Promote resident-centered care that supports residents' physical, emotional, psychosocial, and safety needs.

  • Provide leadership, direction, coaching, and clinical support to RNs, LPNs, CNAs, and other nursing personnel.

  • Assist with nursing staff scheduling and staffing coverage to support appropriate resident care and regulatory requirements.

  • Monitor nursing documentation for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with facility policies and applicable requirements.

  • Participate in resident assessments, care planning, interdisciplinary meetings, and changes-in-condition reviews as appropriate.

  • Assist with monitoring and investigating incidents, accidents, falls, medication errors, skin concerns, and other clinical events.

  • Participate in infection prevention and control activities and reinforce appropriate infection-control practices throughout the nursing department.

  • Assist with monitoring wounds, falls, weight changes, hospital transfers, infections, psychotropic medication use, and other clinical quality indicators.

  • Participate in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) activities and assist with the development and implementation of corrective action plans.

  • Assist with identifying trends and opportunities for improvement in resident care, documentation, staffing, and clinical operations.

  • Conduct nursing rounds to evaluate resident care, staff performance, documentation, environmental concerns, and compliance with facility standards.

  • Assist with orientation, education, competency validation, and ongoing training of nursing personnel.

  • Promote accountability and adherence to professional standards, facility policies, residents' rights, and applicable regulations.

  • Assist with employee performance evaluations, counseling, coaching, and corrective action in accordance with facility policy.

  • Support recruitment, retention, and development efforts for nursing department employees.

  • Communicate effectively with residents, families, physicians, advanced practice providers, pharmacy, therapy, dietary, social services, and other members of the interdisciplinary team.

  • Assist in responding to resident and family concerns and facilitate appropriate follow-up.

  • Participate in facility surveys, audits, inspections, and plans of correction as assigned.

  • Help maintain ongoing survey readiness and compliance with applicable CMS and Florida requirements.

  • Serve as a resource and nursing leader in the absence of the Director of Nursing when assigned.

  • Participate in the facility's emergency preparedness and response activities as required.

  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and facility privacy policies.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Nursing or Administrator.

Qualifications
  • Current, active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Florida in good standing.

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.

  • Previous nursing leadership or supervisory experience preferred.

  • Skilled nursing, long-term care, rehabilitation, or related healthcare experience strongly preferred.

  • Knowledge of federal and state regulations applicable to skilled nursing and long-term care facilities.

  • Knowledge of clinical documentation, resident assessment, care planning, infection prevention, quality improvement, and nursing standards of practice.

  • Current CPR/BLS certification as required by facility policy.

  • Must meet all applicable background screening and employment requirements.

  • Ability to provide leadership during emergencies and changes in resident condition.

Physical Requirements

The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation. The position may require prolonged standing and walking, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, and assisting with resident care. The employee must be able to meet the physical requirements necessary to safely perform assigned nursing and supervisory responsibilities.

Working Conditions

The ADON works primarily within a skilled nursing and rehabilitation environment and may have potential exposure to infectious diseases, bodily fluids, chemicals, and other occupational hazards associated with healthcare settings. Appropriate personal protective equipment and infection-control practices must be followed.

The position may require flexibility in scheduling, including occasional evenings, weekends, holidays, or on-call responsibilities based on facility needs.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Provides leadership and supervision to nursing department personnel as delegated by the Director of Nursing. Responsibilities may include staff oversight, education, coaching, performance monitoring, scheduling support, and ensuring nursing services are delivered in accordance with facility standards.

Regulatory Compliance

The Assistant Director of Nursing is expected to perform assigned responsibilities in accordance with applicable federal and Florida laws and regulations, CMS requirements, residents' rights, professional nursing standards, and facility policies and procedures.
