What are the responsibilities and job description for the Dining Services Manager at The Village Retirement Center - Full-Time position at The Village Active Life Plan Community?
Objective
Opening Duties
- Responsible for checking all sections and make sure they are covered for the day.
- Coordinates with the Kitchen staff to see if there are any changes on the day’s menu.
- Make sure that Dining Room is in order.
- Check for any special events that needs set-up for the day.
- Assists the Manager of Dining Services with employee counseling and any paperwork or projects that need to be completed.
During Service Hours:
- Constantly walk through the Dining Room to see if residents’ needs and/or orders are taken.
- Check on servers to make sure they are doing what needs to be done.
- Pour coffee. Help servers that might be behind on work.
- Communicate with the Kitchen staff and see if things are running smoothly.
- Make sure that servers are not taking too long with putting orders together.
Closing Duties:
- Check all sections if they are set up properly. Make sure that salt and peppershakers as well as sugar caddies are filled.
- Check all assigned side works have been completed.
- Check clipboards in Dining Room office for any special events that needs to be set up for the following day.
- Excuse servers when they have completed their work.
Other Duties:
- Oversee the food server training program and the certified trainers.
- First of Each Month: Service ware (Linens) and Silverware inventory to be submitted to the Manager of Dining Services.
- Weekends: Respond to Red Alerts that needs assistance (Two-way Radio must be turned on at all times). Communicate closely with the Front Desk Personnel in case any problems should arise.
- Additional Duties assigned by Leadership.
- Helps supervise all food servers during setup and meal service hours, council any inappropriate conduct or job performance issues.
- Consistently ensuring the dining room has desired appearance and is in proper order.
- Consistently ensuring our servers are following sanitation and safety rules and being in compliance.
- Assists in conducting monthly trainings on food safety and Dining Room policies and procedures.
- Assist with placing Sysco orders and placing dining menus on touch town.

- Min 2-3 years of experience in food service
- Strong leadership and team management skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to train, coach, and motivate staff
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to handle multiple priorities and remain calm under pressure
- Basic knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards
- Conflict resolution skills
- Ability to respond to residents' concerns professionally.
