Build with Purpose. Lead with Integrity. Preserve What Matters.

The Viking Group is seeking an experienced Construction Superintendent to provide hands-on field leadership for historic preservation, adaptive reuse, and commercial construction projects throughout West Virginia and the surrounding region.

Our work is about more than restoring buildings. We preserve places that define communities, tell important stories, and create opportunities for future generations. The Superintendent will play a critical role in bringing that mission to life by leading jobsite operations, coordinating project teams, and ensuring each project is completed safely, efficiently, and with exceptional craftsmanship.

Position Summary

The Construction Superintendent is responsible for the day-to-day leadership of assigned jobsites. This individual will coordinate subcontractors, manage field schedules, oversee quality and safety, resolve construction challenges, and maintain clear communication with project managers, owners, architects, and trade partners.

The ideal candidate is a confident and respected field leader who takes ownership of the work, builds strong relationships, and understands how to keep a project moving while maintaining high standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead daily jobsite operations and provide clear direction to subcontractors, vendors, and field personnel.
  • Develop and maintain short-term construction schedules and coordinate daily work activities.
  • Conduct regular subcontractor meetings and communicate project priorities, expectations, and upcoming milestones.
  • Monitor workmanship to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, approved submittals, and company quality standards.
  • Promote and enforce a safe, organized, and professional jobsite.
  • Identify field conflicts, constructability concerns, and schedule risks before they affect the project.
  • Coordinate inspections, deliveries, site logistics, equipment, and material storage.
  • Maintain daily reports, progress photographs, manpower records, and other project documentation.
  • Collaborate closely with project managers on scheduling, procurement, change management, and cost control.
  • Communicate professionally with owners, architects, engineers, inspectors, and community stakeholders.
  • Support the careful protection and restoration of historic materials and architectural features.
  • Lead project closeout activities, including punch-list completion, final inspections, and turnover.

Qualifications

  • Five or more years of experience supervising commercial construction projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead subcontractors and manage multiple trades in an active construction environment.
  • Strong knowledge of construction sequencing, scheduling, safety, quality control, and jobsite logistics.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and project documents.
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Professional, dependable, and comfortable making decisions in the field.
  • Working knowledge of construction technology and project documentation platforms.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites.
  • OSHA 30 certification preferred.
  • Experience with historic rehabilitation, adaptive reuse, occupied buildings, or institutional projects is preferred but not required.

What Success Looks Like

A successful Superintendent at The Viking Group:

  • Leads by example and earns the trust of the project team.
  • Creates an organized, respectful, and accountable jobsite culture.
  • Anticipates challenges and develops practical solutions.
  • Maintains momentum without sacrificing safety or craftsmanship.
  • Understands that historic buildings require patience, creativity, and attention to detail.
  • Treats each project as an important investment in the surrounding community.
