We are seeking a growth-oriented, self-starter with prior development experience to join us as our Development Manager. This is an exciting opportunity to build, define, and grow our development program from the ground up.
As the first member of our development team, you’ll have a hands-on role in shaping fundraising operations, from data entry and donor management to crafting and executing fundraising strategy.
The ideal candidate will be comfortable wearing many hats, eager to dive into both the big picture and the details. This person will serve as a primary point of contact for donors and play a key role in expanding the fundraising initiatives that support VGHF’s mission.

The Video Game History Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving, celebrating, and teaching the history of video games.
Through our archives, we provide access to rare materials for research and study. Our advocacy and educational outreach unite fans, creators, and scholars to celebrate and discover the rich history of video games together.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Executive Director to build and execute comprehensive fundraising strategies.
- Organize, analyze, and maintain a database of thousands of past donors to identify key prospects and areas for growth.
- Research, recommend, and implement tools and resources to enhance and streamline development operations.
- Establish and nurture relationships with individual donors, ensuring consistent and meaningful engagement.
- Conduct prospect research to identify, cultivate, and steward both new and existing donors.
- Plan and support in-person fundraising events, helping to engage the local community and grow donor support.
What does success look like in this role?
- Maintain current fundraising of $400k operating budget a minimum of 50% in the first year totaling an incremental $200K
- Build a pipeline of 75 qualified prospects
- Make 60–100 meaningful donor meetings
- Make 40–60 direct asks for support
- Set up a usable CRM donor system
- Reactivate 25% of past donors
- Analyze and improve donor retention rate
System Administration:
- Manage daily administration of CRM and gift data entry maintaining data integrity across the organization
- Implement and optimize CRM features for fundraising and donor management.
Reporting & Insights:
- Build and maintain reports and dashboards that provide actionable insights for fundraising, donor stewardship, and program delivery.
- Partner with leadership to define key metrics and KPIs for tracking organizational
Requirements:
- 7 years of professional experience, 2 years of experience in development at a NPO is a bonus!
- Hands-on experience in a nonprofit or start-up environment
- Understanding of nonprofit fundraising processes (gift processing, acknowledgments, donor stewardship).
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Team-player who maintains a respectful work place
- Experience working with donors in the Bay Area, specifically people in the tech space is a plus!
- Must live in the San Francisco Bay Area - our home office is in Emeryville

We offer competitive compensation and benefits tailored to factors such as location, role complexity, and experience. For this role we have budgeted a starting salary of $80K per year with opportunity for salary increases based on income generation after one year of service.
