What are the responsibilities and job description for the Veterinary Technician position at The Veterinary Center Of Hudson?
Requirements
- Must be a registered veterinary technician (RVT) or be currently in school working towards the associate’s degree and certification
- Part time ( 20-30 hours) or Full- Time (32-40 Hours)
- Open availability with hours varying between 7:30am and 8:00pm Monday through Thursday and 7:30am to 5pm on Fridays.
- No Weekends!!
- Animal behavior background is preferred but not required

Technical Skills
- Help train all staff common animal behaviors and be willing to help continue positive reinforcement.
- Perform venipuncture and understand importance of proper sample handling
- Placing IV catheters
- Monitoring anesthesia as needed
- Ability to interpret capnography, pulse oximeter, EKG and blood pressure results
- Demonstrate an understanding of canine and feline baseline vitals
- Understand vaccine protocols and preventatives
- Educate clients and staff in a friendly manner
- Ability to obtain proper medical history of patients
- Understands the importance of a clean and orderly facility
- Can perform clinical laboratory procedures
- Always be prepared to work at the start of each scheduled shift
- Ability to properly restrain for radiographs for both sedated and non-sedated animals
- Ability handle both cats and dogs with low stress handling techniques
- Ability to perform in house ear cytology and microfilaria screening
- Ability to learn and understand how to use in house blood machines
- Comfortable performing cystocentesis on cats and dogs
- Ability to perform dental prophylaxis and perform digital dental radiographs
- Properly record proper medical information
- Ability to properly triage and assess incoming patients
- Able to remain calm and effectively work with the team during CPR codes
Working Conditions:
- May be exposed to unpleasant odors, noises, and animal feces. May be exposed to bites, scratches, and contagious diseases.
- Work requires lifting and carrying animals (will be assisted by other staff members in lifting animals over 50lbs).
- Walks or stands for extended periods or time, frequently works in a bent position
- Able to stand for 8 hours or more during the day
