The Vanguard School has openings for a Special Education PE/ Health Long Term Substitute Teacher. We are looking for creative, compassionate teachers with experience working with students diagnosed with autism, emotional disorders, and/or behavioral needs.
Title: Temporary - LTS Physical Education Teacher
Program/Dept: Vanguard
Reports to: Program Supervisor
Position Type: Temporary - Beginning 10/6
Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7:45AM to 3:30PM
Minimum Qualifications
Develops appropriate physical education instruction for all students. Plans & implements daily lessons for classes as assigned. Maintains accurate records, determines and monitors student progress, and provides accurate reporting of students’ progress.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Health & Physical Education or a related field. Additional education in special education and/or counseling is preferred.
- Current, valid Pennsylvania certification in Health & Physical Education is required. Certification in Special Education and/or Counseling is a huge plus.
- Experience working with children in a special education setting.
- Ability to recognize the individuality and uniqueness of each student & treat him/her with respect & dignity.
- Ability to engage intellectually and physically in all components of the educational process.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with all constituents (administrators, colleagues, students, parents, and others).
- Knowledge of correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary.
- Ability to use computers and perform clerical skills at a proficient level.

Specific Duties And Responsibilities
- Plans physical education lessons, in writing, according to a planned scope and sequence, addressing individual differences among the students assigned according to the student’s pre-determined goals.
- Consistently implements behavioral programs, clearly defining limits and expectations, encouraging student self-discipline verbally and by example. Documents behavioral incidents.
- Supervises students at all times in accordance with policy for student health and safety. This would include instructional time and assigned duties such as homeroom, clubs, lunch, playground, transportation, trips, etc.
- Offers instructional delivery that is goal related, clearly states expectations, involves equitable student participation, is properly paced, allows for differentiation, and includes assessment.
- Plans, prepares, and leads students in activities and special events as determined by the Director of Education. In addition, plans, prepares, and leads students in community events as requested.
- Correlates instruction with other instructional areas when possible and desirable, by planning experiences that include other subject areas with the curriculum.
- Maintains a professional, confidential and ethical relationship with colleagues, students and parents at all times.
- Assigns instructional materials to students and insures proper care, use and return of such materials.
- Maintains classroom in proper appearance and end-of-year inventory and storage of materials.
- Assists with the budgeting process, such as determining program goals and ordering appropriate materials, suggesting field trips, etc. in conjunction with the Director.
- Attends and actively participates in all faculty meetings, in-service meetings, and any other meetings as required.
- Maintains proper certification for assignment and remains educationally informed in all related areas including PDE regulations and state/national standards through continued professional study and attending workshops and conferences.
- Performs related duties, special assignments and projects as assigned.
