Position Overview:

 

This position is responsible for assisting providers and clinicians with patient care duties as well as supporting CCNW public health screening activities as directed.  Promotes efficient patient flow and patient care, i.e. exams and procedures. Performs clinic support tasks including miscellaneous clerical tasks, answering phones and maintaining physician’s schedule.  Supports and adheres to the Cancer Care Northwest Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.


Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Escorts patients to and from exam rooms, provider offices, and treatment room as appropriate.
  • Records patient data prior to each provider visit, including but not limited to, vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medication changes.
  • Obtains all necessary patient records as required by provider and verifies presence of consent prior to treatment or procedures.
  • Prepares and stocks exam/treatment rooms and orders supplies as needed.
  • Assists providers with exams and procedures as requested.
  • Assists with delegated patient education activities including but not limited to distributing education literature, etc.
  • Obtains blood specimens from peripheral sites as needed and in accordance with OSHA and universal
  • Administers subcutaneous and intramuscular injections after appropriate training and supervision, including but not limited to, vaccines and biological growth factors.
  • Documents all elements of care. Communicate all pertinent information to the attending provider.
  • Maintains all exam/treatment room disinfection protocols. Processes, instruments and equipment as needed.  Adheres to CCNW policies regarding use of protective personal equipment (PPE) and hygiene standards in workplace.
  • Provides telephone or in-person screening limited to intake and gathering of information without requiring the exercise of judgment based on clinical knowledge. Communicates clinical information from screening interviews to appropriate providers/supervisors in a timely manner to support care coordination.
  • Phones in prescriptions, complete with proper documentation, and keeps an accurate medication list for all patients under his/her care.
  • Schedules patient tests, procedures and hospital admissions and schedules appointments to follow-up on test results, as applicable.
  • Assists with select pre-authorizations and pre-certifications as needed. Informs provider of patient reschedules and no shows.
  • Obtains new patient records and previous test results, x-rays, scans, etc.
  • Performs other administrative duties, i.e. typing, filing, faxing, reception, etc, as requested by supervisor or provider.
  • Maintains indigent drug program and sample drug program as assigned.
  • Maintain Current knowledge of oncology nursing by participating in ongoing educational opportunities.
  • Participate in professional development activities and maintain professional affiliations.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality
  • Performs all other duties/responsibilities as necessary or assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

 

Formal Education, Certification/Licensure, and Prior Experience: 

  • Washington: High School Diploma or General Education Degree. Graduate from an accredited program for Medical Assistants. Current DOH MA Certified or able to obtain DOH MA Registered credentials or Current DOH Nursing Assistant Certified in a hospital or clinic setting.  CPR certification.
  • Idaho: High School Diploma or General Education Degree. Graduate of Nationally Accredited Medical Assisting program.  CPR certification.
  • Previous phlebotomy experience (preferred).
  • Have five (5) years’ experience as a medical assistant or nursing assistant in a hospital or clinic setting (preferred).

  Physical Abilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to:

  • Regularly: stand, bend, stoop/crouch, grasp, reach, talk, and hear
  • Occasionally: sit, lift up to 40 pounds, pull/push up to 40 pounds, carry up to 40 pounds
  • Vision: clearly see up to 5 feet with or without corrective lenses

 

Work Environment: While performing the essential duties/responsibilities of this job, the employee:

  • will not be exposed to any workplace environmental conditions caused by extreme noise, heat, cold, workplace hazards, or atmospheric dust/fumes/vapors/mists
  • will be exposed to blood borne pathogens
  • will be exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals
  • will be exposed to ionizing radiation, medical preparations, and other conditions common to an oncology/hematology clinic environment

 

Salary DOE – $21.80 - $31.61
