Scope of Job
To provide academic guidance to support graduation and academic success for student-athletes.
Description of Duties
- Assists Athletic Academic Support staff and the Deputy AD/SWA to provide quality academic support to at-risk cohort.
- Coordinates with Academic Advising Center and other Student Success staff as needed to best serve specific student needs
- Supports student-athlete health and wellness, community engagement, leadership and professional development, and assist with Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
- Participates in the recruitment, orientation, initial and continuing academic advising, pre-registration, and enrollment of student-athletes.
- Conducts regularly scheduled academic meetings with at-risk student athletes and prepares academic road maps for at-risk student-athletes.
- Supervises study hall for student athletes.
- May refer student athletes for mental health assessment based on established guidelines and indicators.
- Participates in the recruitment and orientation of student-athletes.
- Monitors academic progress of student-athletes and advises student-athletes as to how to stay on course to meet NCAA eligibility and institutional graduation requirements. Active member of the NCAA Certification Team.
- Responsible for providing missed class reports and academic progress reports.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Direct supervision of assigned staff.
Required Education
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.

Licenses/Certifications

Required Experience
Experience working with students.
Preferred Experience
Experience working within an athletic department within the assigned capacity.
Equipment
Use of standard office equipment. Proficient in Microsoft Office programs..
Working Conditions
Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Office Environment; some travel and weekend work may be required. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. UTRGV is a distributed institution, which requires presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley.

Great organizational and time management skills; excellent verbal and written communication skills, presentation skills. Ability to support a direct contact caseload of approximately 80 student-athletes. Ability to support a study hall/computer lab. Ability to leverage university resources for the benefit of at-risk student populations.
