Strategic leader responsible for driving initiatives that enhance institutional performance, employee engagement, leadership development, and organizational culture across the university—including health affairs and affiliated clinical operations. Implement and lead a comprehensive organizational development strategy that supports academic, administrative, and clinical excellence, aligning people, processes, and culture with the institution’s mission and values.
Description of Duties
- Develops and leads a university-wide organizational development strategy that supports institutional goals and transformation efforts.
- Serves as a trusted advisor to university and clinical leaders on organizational change, culture, leadership development, and workforce planning.
- Partners with senior leadership to facilitate organizational assessments, strategic planning, and change management initiatives.
- In conjunction with stakeholders, identifies functions, departments, or teams that could benefit from improvements in employee productivity, performance, or engagement or that are challenged by gaps in employee knowledge or skill.
- Oversees assessment of current state, development and delivery of interventions or training programs, and validation that desired state has been reached.
- Oversees the development of innovative solutions to performance issues or skill or knowledge gaps and monitors program progress to completion.
- Responsible for management, executive development programs, or train-the-trainer programs.
- Collaborates with other members of the executive management team to align division strategy or direction with the overall goals of the organization.
- Develops policies, practices, and procedures that have a significant impact on the organization.
- Leads enterprise-wide change initiatives, integrating people strategy with institutional transformation goals.
- Identifies high-potential talent and succession planning strategies to build future leadership capacity.
- Provides executive coaching and development resources for department chairs and clinical or administrative leaders.
- Leads employee engagement initiatives, including surveys, action planning, and initiatives to improve morale and retention.
- Facilitate cross-functional collaboration across academic and clinical departments.
- Aligns training and development with other interventions including team building, group process consultation, meeting facilitation, change management, organization diagnosis and design/structure, process and work design.
- Oversees and participates in the hiring, training, and evaluation of assigned staff.
- Provides advanced-level organizational development consultation to department managers, directors, and executive-level management.
- Stays aware of trends in organizational development and designs and oversees management development training curriculum for a broad-based targeted employee population.
- Oversees a team responsible for delivering professional development workshops, onboarding programs, and team effectiveness interventions.
- Ensures training programs meet regulatory, compliance, and accreditation standards for clinical and academic settings.
- Collaborates with HR, faculty affairs, and clinical operations to streamline leadership onboarding and development.
- Collaborates in HR management meetings and strategic planning.
- May oversee departmental retreats and/or team-building activities.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education
Master’s degree in Human Resources Management, Organizational Development, Psychology or related field.

Required Experience
Eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience in organizational development or professional development training, including leading projects.
Preferred Experience
Experience obtained in higher education setting. Experience working with faculty and healthcare professionals in an academic medical center environment.
Equipment
Use of standard office equipment.
Working Conditions
Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. Some travel and weekend work is required. UTRGV is a distributed institution, which requires presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley.
