Scope of Job
Responsible for assisting with the management of the day-to-day operations of Student Accessibility Services within the Office of Student Life and under the Dean of Students Office.
Description of Duties
- Manages the day-to-day departmental operations under the general supervision of the Director of Student Accessibility Services, including provision of student accommodations and services and monitors progress toward departmental goals.
- Serves as a member of the Departmental Review Committee (DRC) to evaluate and determine reasonable and appropriate accommodations and services that ensure equitable access while preserving essential program requirements, academic integrity, and compliance with academic, clinical, and university policies.
- Develops and delivers departmental trainings, presentations, and professional development sessions for faculty, staff, and other stakeholders to enhance awareness, knowledge, and effective implementation of services and accommodations.
- Facilitates the coordination of accommodations and services for students, staff, faculty, and visitors with disabilities and supports the department’s strategic objectives.
- Manages, coordinates, and facilitates programs, resources, and procedures for individuals with disabilities in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
- Assists the director with budget planning and administration for assigned areas, including developing recommendations, monitoring expenditures, and ensuring the effective allocation and use of departmental resources.
- Oversees and supervises the Student Accessibility Mentoring (SAMs) Peer Mentoring Program, ensuring the effective implementation, coordination, assessment, and continuous improvement of program services and activities, and student engagement initiatives.
- Provides oversight of Title IX pregnancy accommodations and serves as the primary point of contact for accommodation requests, case management, and collaborates with campus stakeholders to support student access and maintain compliance with Title IX requirements.
- May supervise assigned staff.
- Assists in evaluating and revising technical standards, departmental procedures, and operational practices to improve efficiency, consistency, compliance, and service delivery as needed.
- Develops, maintains, and strengthens collaborative relationships with internal and external partners, departments, and organizations to support program goals, enhance service delivery, and promote student success.
- Oversees the maintenance and review of program records, activity reports, and outcome data, recommending and implementing modifications to methods and procedures to enhance program effectiveness.
- Designs, implements, and evaluates departmental programs and initiatives, while identifying and communicating best practices in service delivery to students, faculty, and staff with disabilities to enhance access, consistency, and effectiveness.
- Coordinates outreach activities to increase awareness of Student Accessibility Services through campus and community engagement, and develops related materials including brochures, rack cards, letters, and PowerPoint presentations.
- Assists in the development and implementation of projects, programs, and initiatives, including coordination of short- and long-term planning efforts and feasibility studies.
- Represents the department at Dean of Students (DOS) and Student Affairs Council meetings, conferences, seminars, and other official university functions as assigned, fostering collaboration and advancing departmental and university initiatives.

Required Education
Bachelor’s degree in Rehabilitation Services, Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, Special Education, or a related field from an accredited university.

Required Experience
- Three (3) years of work experience with students with disabilities to include supervisory experience; or
- Two (2) years of work experience with students with disabilities to include supervisory experience with a Master’s degree in Rehabilitation Services, Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, Special Education, or a related field from an accredited university.
Preferred Experience
- Experience working with people who are deaf or hard of hearing or communicating in American Sign Language (ASL).
- Bilingual (English and Spanish).
- Experience with assistive technology, accommodation management or case management in an educational or similar setting.
- Conflict resolution experience.

Use of standard office equipment.
Working Conditions
Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. Some travel and weekend work is required. UTRGV is a distributed institution, which may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley.
