Minimum Qualifications:
The Old Red Medical Museum is looking for a motivated and reliable Federal Work-Study student who is interested in UTMB’s history, museums, and behind-the-scenes work with unique collections. This position is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience working with historical biological collections while supporting museum operations, conservation objectives, research initiatives, and museum activities.
Job Duties:
This position reports directly to the Curator of the Old Red Medical Museum. The museum’s Student Assistant will work closely with museum’s conservator, administrative coordinator and UTMB’s Students For Old Red.

Job Duties:

- Collections inventory: Undertake an inventory of the historical collections and update the records in the museum’s database. (guidance provided)
- Collections organization: Assist in numbering and labeling to improve the organization of the collections. Supplement database information by adding historical contextual sources.
- Historical research: Undertake research (e.g. Truman G. Blocker, Jr. History of Medicine Collections, Moody Medical Library) on the history of medicine at UTMB.
- University representation: Serve as an ambassador for UTMB, the museum and Old Red. Demonstrating professionalism during all museum events.
- Team collaboration: Work effectively with museum staff, the UTMB community and visitors alike.
- Must have a Federal Work Study Award and be enrolled in a UTMB degree program
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Strong initiative, attention to detail, and time management
