The Coordinator of Community Standards supports the University student conduct process as a learning-centered and developmental function within Student Affairs that promotes student learning, development, belonging, well-being, personal responsibility, and a respectful academic community. Reporting to the Assistant Director, the Coordinator helps facilitate fair, equitable, inclusive, and student-centered responses to alleged behavioral and academic misconduct, assists students in understanding their rights and responsibilities, and supports educational, developmental, and restorative approaches that promote accountability, reflection, and student success across the University community.
Statement Of Duties And Responsibilities
Supports the administration of the University student conduct process for alleged behavioral and academic misconduct involving individual students and, as assigned, student organizations, helping ensure fair, equitable, student-centered, and educational resolution in alignment with Regents’ Rules and Regulations, University and System rules, applicable law, and matters arising on or off campus when subject to University jurisdiction and office protocols.
Assists with intake, review, investigation, adjudication support, sanction follow-up, records management, and communication related to student conduct matters; provides students with clear information about their rights, responsibilities, resolution options, and opportunities for reflection, learning, accountability, and support.
Investigates, hears, and adjudicates student misconduct and academic misconduct cases within assigned authority, prepares case documentation, and makes recommendations consistent with University policy, due process, educational practice, and office procedures.
Reviews and applies relevant policies, including Regents’ Rules and Regulations, University and System rules, the UTEP Handbook of Operating Procedures, and related guidance to support student learning, community standards, fundamental fairness, and consistent practice.
Coordinates with campus partners, including Residence Life, the Dean of Students Office, Academic Affairs, Title IX, CARE, Campus Police, Counseling, Accessibility, and other support offices, to respond to student behavior concerns and support coordinated, culturally responsive, student-centered, and timely interventions within the role’s assigned authority.
Supports educational outreach, training, and presentations for students, faculty, staff, and student organizations on community standards, academic integrity, student rights and responsibilities, decision-making, and prevention in support of a respectful, inclusive, collaborative, and learning-centered campus community.
Utilizes developmental, restorative, and conflict resolution approaches, when appropriate, to support student learning, accountability, repair of harm, responsible reintegration, and holistic student support within the University community.
Assists with the development and continuous improvement of procedures, forms, workflows, case management practices, web content, and office communications that support timely resolution, consistency, accessibility, effective service delivery, and documentation.
Assists with compiling reports, tracking outreach and case activity, maintaining documentation in Maxient and other institutional systems, and supporting assessment, annual reporting, data-informed practice, and continuous improvement efforts for the Office of Community Standards.
Assists in the training and supervision of student employees and, as assigned, supports the preparation or coordination of hearing officers, boards, or other participants involved in community standards processes and educational resolution efforts.
Knowledge of all Microsoft Office software and able to learn and use institutional software systems.
Complies with all State and University policies.
Other duties may be assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Provides oversight of student employees assigned to the office, including training, assigning and reviewing work, supporting day-to-day operations, and promoting effective service, accountability, and professional conduct.

Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in higher education administration, student affairs, counseling, conflict resolution, public administration, criminal justice, or a closely related field.

Experience: Three (3) years of professional experience related to the statement of duties and responsibilities, preferably in student conduct, community standards, dean of students, residence life, student affairs, higher education administration, or a closely related area.
Experience should include case management; investigation, hearing support, or adjudication of student conduct matters; policy interpretation and implementation; outreach, training, and consultation with students, faculty, staff, and campus partners; and the ability to work effectively with and relate to students, faculty, and staff in a multicultural environment.
Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion with sensitive and confidential information required.
Serves as a Campus Security Authority as defined by the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act).
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree from an accredited university in higher education administration, student affairs, counseling, conflict resolution, public administration, criminal justice, or a closely related field is preferred.
Five (5) years of progressively responsible professional experience in student conduct, community standards, dean of students, residence life, student affairs, higher education administration, or a closely related area is preferred.
Preferred experience includes adjudication or coordination of student conduct matters, educational outreach and training, collaboration with campus partners on student support and behavior concerns, experience using Maxient or similar case management systems, and demonstrated commitment to equity-minded, student-centered, developmental, and learning-centered practice.
Knowledge of student development, conflict resolution, due process, and applicable higher education laws and regulations, including FERPA, Clery, and Title IX, is desirable.
