The Department of Economics and Finance at The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) invites applications for a renewable, non-tenure-track Assistant Professor of Practice in Banking and Financial Institutions, beginning January 16, 2027.
We are looking for an experienced banking professional interested in sharing their knowledge and practical experience in a university classroom setting. Candidates may come from lending, credit, risk management, bank examination, treasury, or capital markets. The Department's Banking and Financial Institutions concentration and its Banking Academy prepare students for careers in banking and other financial institutions of this region and beyond, and this position is central to both.

The Department's Banking and Financial Institutions concentration and its Banking Academy prepare students for careers in banking and other financial institutions of this region and beyond, and this position is central to both.
- Teach undergraduate banking courses, including Bank Management, Bank Lending, Central Banking, and Current Issues in Banking, along with other banking courses to be developed and other undergraduate finance courses as needed. Depending on qualifications, teaching may include master's-level courses.
- Contribute to the Banking Academy and to the Department's relationships with regional financial institutions, including guest speakers, student mentoring, internship pipelines, and career placement.
- Attain and maintain AACSB faculty qualification as a Practice Academic (PA) or Instructional Practitioner (IP) through continued professional engagement, applied scholarship, or industry-relevant contributions.
- Serve on departmental and college committees and participate in community outreach.
- A master's degree in finance, economics, business, or a closely related field, plus at least 10 years of substantive professional experience in banking or financial institutions.
- Demonstrated capacity for effective classroom instruction.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work productively with students from a wide range of backgrounds.
- A terminal degree (PhD, DBA, or equivalent) from an AACSB-accredited institution.
- Prior university teaching experience with documented evidence of teaching effectiveness.
- Demonstrated competence in the instructional use of artificial intelligence tools, including their use in course and assessment design and in preparing students to apply AI appropriately to banking and financial analysis.
- Senior-level banking experience and an active professional network in the industry.
- Relevant professional credentials (e.g., CFA, CFP).
- Familiarity with the U.S.-Mexico border economy or binational banking.
