Position Summary
Implements and exercises functional authority for planning, organization, control, integration, and completion of projects within area of assigned responsibility. Plans, assigns, and supervises the work of other staff members including the oversight of all Military Student Success Center (MSSC) education benefits processing.
Statement Of Duties And Responsibilities
Overseeing and implementing strategies for the processing of all VA, Hazlewood, and Tuition Assistance. This includes setting goals and standards on the amount of work for the MSSC VA School Certifying Officials through the Education Benefits Manager.
Manages select full-time staff positions. May include the employees located at the MSSC, the Military Resource Center (MRC), and the Fort Bliss office.
Updates the yearly University catalog of programs and submits to State Approving Agency/Department of Veterans Affairs for program approvals
Promotes organization policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations; advises University personnel regarding the development and implementation of regulatory strategy, potential areas of regulatory concern, and new government/regulatory developments.
Implements directives corresponding to division or department outlining policy, program, or operational changes to be implemented. Ensures operational efficiency and economy of divisions or departments.
Assists in developing and implementing short and long-range plans, conceptual designs, and capital outlay (budget) requirements and assessment planning for assigned areas.
Acts as the primary person who assists in gathering data for assessment and creating dashboard for leadership to understand department progress.
Oversee the VA work study program. Responsible for the hiring, onboarding, and training of new work studies in addition to creating a weekly work schedule.
Provides training policies, standards, guidelines, and security monitoring processes in relation to general control, privacy regulations, and development and operation of the University’s infrastructure.
Reviews and approves documentation relating to veteran’s benefits; processes benefits through respective military systems, such as VA Enrollment Manager, Hazlewood Exemption, Military Tuition Assistance, etc.
Implements and executes CRM campaigns to military affiliated students to keep them informed on federal legislation changes, education benefit changes, and programming events.
Understands department’s role in accomplishing the University’s mission and incorporates the University’s mission into the department’s daily work and activities.
Compiles and submits reports as required by management, state, local, and federal regulatory agencies.
Acts as liaison between department and internal or external customers.
Participate in various committees, professional training, industry conferences, and conventions.
Knowledge of all Microsoft Office software, military related benefits systems, and able to learn and use institutional software systems.
Complies with all State and University policies.
Other duties may be assigned.

Five years of experience working in a student/academic affairs within a higher education institution; team/department supervision experience and training to the statement of duties and responsibilities ; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in processing VA/Hazlewood educational benefits. Occasional traveling required.
