    General Notes

    This is a grant-funded position and reassignment will be based upon performance, progress toward research goals and continuation of funding. Must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for any employer without sponsorship. Ability to work remote/hybrid within the state of Texas.

    Purpose

    This position is needed to assist in meeting the goals and objectives of the Veteran Spouse Network (VSN) project.

    Responsibilities

    • Provide Intake Monitoring, Screening, & Risk Assessment. Review and monitor participant intake and screening forms to assess support needs, and potential risk factors. Identify participants whose needs may exceed the scope of peer support programming and require additional assessment or external resources. Use established screening tools and protocols to assess risk, including emotional distress, safety concerns, or significant life stressors. Document screening outcomes accurately and in accordance with confidentiality and data‑protection standards.
    • Coordinate Follow-Up, Referrals, & Participant Support. Contact participants who may be in crisis or need additional support to conduct follow-up assessments to better understand participant needs. Provide tailored referrals to community providers, mental health resources, and veteran/military family support organizations as needed. Support participants throughout the intake process with empathy, cultural competence, and a trauma-informed approach.
    • Coordinate Collaborative Responsibilities. Coordinate closely with peer facilitators, program staff, and leadership to support crisis response procedures that promote a trauma‑informed, participant‑centered program environment. Communicate observed participant needs or program trends to inform program improvement. Follow all privacy, confidentiality, and data protection protocols.
    • Oversee Program Support & Participant Safety. Serve as a point of support for peer groups, trainings, or programming that address sensitive or potentially triggering topics. Be available as a resource to participants who may experience distress during or after group sessions, in alignment with Veteran Spouse Network (VSN) protocols. Support suicide prevention and wellness efforts by reinforcing safe practices, escalation pathways, and resource awareness.
    • Additional duties as assigned.


    Required Qualifications

    Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, public health, human services, or a related field with at least 5 years of experience or equivalent relevant experience. Experience in intake, screening, case management, participant support, or human services. Strong assessment, documentation, and follow‑up skills. Ability to engage participants with empathy, professionalism, and cultural humility. Comfort working with individuals navigating stress, transition, or emotional challenges. Excellent verbal and written communications skills. Excellent attention to detail.

    Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

    Preferred Qualifications

    More than required years of experience. Training in trauma‑informed care, suicide prevention, motivational interviewing, or crisis response. Experience working with military, veteran, or caregiver populations and/or being personally military-connected. Experience leading suicide prevention training or trainer certifications in any suicide prevention training(s). Familiarity with community referral networks and mental health resources. Experience supporting peer‑led or group‑based programming.

    Salary Range

    $55,000 - $65,000 - depending on qualifications

    • Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation
    • Ability to work remote/hybrid within the state of Texas


    Work Shift

    • M-F, Flexible between 8am-6pm

    Employment Eligibility:

    Regular staff who have been employed in their current position for the last six continuous months are eligible for openings being recruited for through University-Wide or Open Recruiting, to include both promotional opportunities and lateral transfers.     Retirement Plan Eligibility:

    The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.

  • Compliance:
