The Academic Advising and Success Center is seeking candidates to fill an academic advisor position to work with on-campus and online students in a variety of academic disciplines. The advisor also will teach a first-year seminar each fall semester.
Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate strong interpersonal, writing, and public speaking skills. They will also demonstrate a history of identifying and solving problems within an organization. College students come to USD with talents, abilities, and skills that should be viewed as assets for their individual and collective success. The advisor will have demonstrated understanding of the unique needs of students from a wide variety of social and cultural backgrounds.
The advisor will be responsible for 150-200 students. At USD, advisors help students create both short-term schedules for each semester and long-term plans for graduation. Advisors are responsible for knowing the academic requirements, policies, and procedures in the academic catalog and to communicate them effectively to students. Advisors also work closely with faculty, staff, and administrators to ensure the success of each student.
A Master’s degree in any field is required. Experience in higher education, teaching, and/or counseling is a plus. Familiarity with student information systems and Microsoft Office programs is desired.
