Mass Spectrometry Technician
Shared Research Support Services is hiring a Mass Spectrometry (MS) Lab Technician. This technician will be a vital part of a scientific team, responsible for operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting mass spectrometry instruments used to analyze samples. Their work contributes to research, development, and quality assurance in various fields. Under the supervision of the MS Facility Director, the MS Technician will work in close collaboration with researchers to carry out sample preparation, downstream mass spectrometry analyses, and interpretation of results, and finally report creation. The focus of this position is on mass spec analysis of intact proteins, including proteins with post-translational and chemical modifications, and proteomics. The MS Facility's main goal is to provide high-standard mass spectrometry services to the research community.
Performs a variety of independent laboratory work and experiments such as determining experimental protocols and preparation of specimens and cultures. Prepares reports of findings subsequent to compilation and analyzation. Oversees specimen inventory. Develops documentation for publication; crafts manuscripts and grant proposals.
Must have the manual and visual acuity to manipulate samples and interact with precision scientific instrumentation. Must be able to use computers and communicate effectively with a wide range of users.
Must be able to lift bottle of solvent (<20lbs) to over shoulder height on a routine basis (several times weekly). Occasional movement of gas cylinders (150lbs) using appropriate carts and techniques. Occasional crouching, bending, and reaching while performing instrument repair and maintenance.
