Laboratory Technician
Description - External
The laboratory studies a Biosafety Level 2 (BSL-2) bacterial pathogen. The employee is expected to maintain a safe working environment, perform a variety of laboratory experiments and procedures, prepare specimens, keep a thorough laboratory notebook, oversee supply management, and operate and properly maintain equipment. Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree and minimum of 1 year experience that includes microbiology.
Qualifications - External
- Performs a variety of laboratory techniques, including PCR, cloning, gene sequencing, molecular assays, microbiological assays, troubleshooting, and analysis. Ensures conformity to specifications.
- Identifies, prepares, stores, and catalogues specimens.
- Oversees supply management: ordering, procurement, tracking estimates, and receiving items.
- Operates and maintains applicable laboratory equipment for job functions.
- Keeps detailed, accurate, and timely data and log books. Organizes and documents results.
- Maintains, calibrates, cleans, and tests sterility of laboratory equipment.
