UNCG continues to be recognized nationally for academic excellence, access, and affordability. UNCG is ranked No. 1 most affordable institution in North Carolina for net cost by the N.Y. Times and No. 1 in North Carolina for social mobility by The Wall Street Journal — helping first-generation and lower-income students find paths to prosperity. Designated an Innovation and Economic Prosperity University by the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities, UNCG is a community-engaged research institution with a portfolio of more than $67M in research and creative activity. The University’s 2,600 staff help create an annual economic impact for the Piedmont Triad region in excess of $1B.

Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit
As part of the Division of Student Success, University Advising (UA) coordinates comprehensive academic advising and retention support for all undergraduate students. Advising plays a pivotal role in student success by providing guidance in course selection and academic planning and supporting students’ personal, educational, and professional goals. Departments and initiatives within University Advising include the Students First Office, Transfer Initiatives, Starfish EARLY Alert, Academic Appeals, and University Studies.
The Students First Office (SFO) fosters a learner-centered experience for undergraduate success by serving as one of the first lines of response in helping UNCG students address any number of academic issues they may experience at the University. The office coordinates intervention processes across different academic and administrative units to help students determine the best possible success strategies for addressing academic concerns. In collaboration with other support services across campus, SFO serves as an academic one-stop-shop for assisting students with academic advising, academic recovery, appeals, and graduation planning. Additionally, the office is the centralized center for the advisement of Exploratory (undecided) majors and the coordination of all programs for students in academic recovery.
Within SFO, the Academic Recovery Team coordinates curricular programs and support services for students in academic recovery, with a particular focus on new first-time in college and new transfer students. Support services include, but are not limited to, academic appeals, Academic Recovery Seminar (ARS) courses for students on probation, with approved academic suspension appeals and approved return from academic dismissal appeals, and UNCG’s early alert platform. The Academic Recovery Team employs a strong team-oriented approach that prioritizes collaboration within and across teams in the department.

Position Summary
Reporting to the Associate Director of Academic Recovery, the Academic Recovery Coordinator will collaborate with other members of the AR Team to coordinate, implement, and assess ARS 100 and 120, the academic recovery interventions for new students who fall on Academic Probation and Academic Suspension. The ARC serves as the academic coach for an assigned load of ARS 100 and ARS 120 students. In addition, the ARC supports SFO’s one-stop-shop services by . providing supplemental academic advising assistance during SFO’s drop-in hours and via scheduled student appointments.
