Role Description The Assistant Professor of the History of Photography is a full-time, on-site faculty position based in Albuquerque, NM. The role involves teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in the history of photography and related fields, advising students, and contributing to curriculum development in collaboration with department colleagues. The faculty member will pursue an active research agenda, produce scholarly work, and present findings at conferences or through publications. Day-to-day responsibilities include preparing lectures, leading discussions, assessing student work, holding office hours, and participating in departmental and university service such as committees and outreach. The position also encourages collaboration across disciplines and engagement with the local arts and cultural community.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated expertise in Art History with a focus on the history of photography.
- Background in World History and American History relevant to the study of photography in global and U.S. contexts.
- Experience with University Teaching and Curriculum Development, including designing syllabi and course materials.
- Terminal degree (PhD or equivalent) in Art History, Visual Studies, or a closely related field, or evidence of near completion.
- Strong record or clear potential for scholarly research and publication in the history of photography.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills and the ability to teach, mentor, and support a diverse student body.
- Commitment to inclusive pedagogy, collaborative departmental service, and engagement with interdisciplinary initiatives.
