Definition of Class
This position works closely with students, teaching assistants and faculty in a physics laboratory. The incumbent oversees teaching assistants in the laboratory.
Examples of Work Performed
- Develops and evaluates laboratory experiments.
- Establishes and maintains safety procedures for laboratory experiments.
- Evaluates effectiveness of laboratory experiments.
- Develops and revises laboratory manuals.
- Maintains laboratory equipment and facilities.
- Assists in the acquisition, design, and construction of laboratory demonstration equipment.
- Purchases laboratory equipment as needed.
- Respond to request to participate/assist in community outreach programs/activities for the University of Mississippi and area schools.
- Assists in undergraduate physics labs on an “as needed” basis.
- Performs similar or related duties as assigned or required.
Essential Functions
These essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following. Additional essential functions may be identified and included by the hiring department.
- Manage undergraduate physics laboratories.
- Oversees teaching assistants.
- Assist in undergraduate physics laboratories as needed.
- Active participation in outreach programs.
Minimum Education/Experience
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Physics.
Substitution Statement:
Related experience may be substituted for education, on a basis set forth and approved by the Department of Human Resources.
