Department Summary:

Michigan Dining comprises nineteen on-campus cafes and markets, nine residential dining halls, Michigan Bakeshop, and the Michigan Catering unit. Our 500 full-time and 1,300 student employees are committed to creative, healthy, and nutritious foods, international cuisines, and sustainability throughout all dining operations.

Position Summary:

You will support Michigan Dining's residential, retail, and catering operations by ensuring compliance with food safety, occupational health, and safety regulations. You will conduct audits, investigates safety concerns, maintain and enforce policies, manage digital temperature monitoring systems, and deliver staff training to promote a culture of safety and compliance. You will report to Michigan Dining's Safety Representative Senior and work onsite.

Responsibilities*

  • Support the comprehensive safety program for Michigan Dining, ensuring compliance with food safety, occupational health, and regulatory standards across all operations.
  • Be a liaison to Student Life and campus partners, coordinating audits, addressing safety concerns, and escalating high-risk issues.
  • Conduct internal safety audits, support documentation and follow-up, and recommend corrective actions to leadership.
  • Maintain digital temperature tracking systems, analyze compliance data, and provide troubleshooting and staff support.
  • Communicate policy updates, regulatory changes, and safety procedures to unit managers and teams.
  • Help develop and deliver food safety and occupational health training for our staff.
  • Represent Michigan Dining on committees and at professional meetings to support continuous improvement.

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in hospitality, public health, environmental health, or a related field.
  • 2 years of experience in foodservice or hospitality.
  • Proficiency with digital systems (e.g., temperature monitoring, logs, or facility management tools).
  • ServSafe certification within 90 days, and instructor certification within 6 months from the date of hire as a condition of employment.

Modes of Work
