Job Title: Senior Banquet Operations Manager

Job Summary:
The Operations Manager is a key member of the club’s leadership team, responsible for leading and coordinating all banquet and event operations, ensuring the execution of corporate functions, private events, and club-hosted experiences. The ideal candidate is an accomplished hospitality professional with a passion for delivering elevated service, managing high-performing teams, and maintaining the exacting standards of a prestigious club environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Event & Banquet Management:
- Coordinate and execute all banquet events, private functions, weddings, and club-sponsored activities.
- Partner with the Private Events team and Executive Chef to finalize menus, room layouts, décor, and special requests.
- Ensure timely room setups, accurate execution of BEOs (Banquet Event Orders), and adherence to member preferences.
- Lead pre-event meetings and post-event reviews to refine service standards and ensure member satisfaction.
Operational Leadership:
- Supervise daily operations of banquet and events teams, including set-up staff, servers, bartenders, and support personnel.
- Ensure smooth coordination between departments (Kitchen, Events, Membership) for flawless event execution.
- Opens and closes the Club on a rotational basis with Operations team, maintaining oversight of the entire Club, including Lounge & Grille.
- Uphold standards of cleanliness, organization, and readiness in all function spaces.
- Exemplifies a service first, team oriented attitude; takes on any additional duties assigned.
Member Service & Relations:
- Act as primary liaison with members and non-member hosts during events, providing a visible, gracious, and responsive presence.
- Anticipate and resolve issues with discretion and efficiency, ensuring the highest level of guest satisfaction.
Staff Development & Management:
- Recruit, train, schedule, and manage banquet service staff while fostering a culture of accountability, positivity, and excellence.
- Provide constant and respectful coaching to team members to improve service. Aid in regular performance reviews.
- Prepare and conduct regular staff trainings, and ensure all staff maintain required certifications (TIPs, ServSafe, et al).
- Develop and revise training manuals to meet the UMass Club’s luxury service expectations.
Financial Oversight:
- Communicate across departments to assist in budgeting, forecasting, and cost control related to event operations.
- Ensure accurate and timely billing by updating Events in ReserveCloud.
- Monitor inventory levels of banquet supplies, linen, and service equipment; maintain cost-effective par levels.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in banquet or events operation, preferably within a private club, or luxury services environment.
- Proven ability to lead and motivate a team in a fast paced, high-touch, high expectation environment.
- Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills; ability to interact effectively with members, guests, and staff.
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills; able to handle multiple events with precision.
- Knowledge of fine dining service, wine and beverage pairing, and upscale event presentation standards
- Proficiency with POS and CRM systems and Microsoft Office.
- ServSafe and TIPS certifications are preferred.
- Basic Audio/Visual knowledge preferred.
- Professional demeanor and the ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as required.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Must be able to lift up to 50lbs and perform physical tasks related to event setup and breakdown when needed.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Salary range $85,000 - $95,000.

About the Club:
The University of Massachusetts Club is located on the 32nd floor of One Beacon Street on Beacon Hill. The Club opened at this location in November 2015. We have 5 private event spaces that offer our guests the best panoramic views in Boston. Our Club currently has 1,700 members. We are open 6 days per week and occasionally on Sundays.
