Position Overview
FutureU @KU is a 3-day, 2-night college experience for rising seniors and 2026 graduates with intellectual disabilities. This camp will explore college opportunities, career paths, and campus activities.
The FutureU @KU Resident Assistants (RA) will live in a residence hall and supervise approximately 5 to 10 high school students who are participating in a three-day, two-night inclusive education camp at KU during the summer. Each RA is assigned a group of 2-3 students but is responsible for supervising every student. The RAs are required to reside in the designated residence hall with campers and maintain 24-hour residency for the duration of the appointment. This position reports to the Director of the program. The Resident Assistants must be able to lead, advise, mentor, supervise, and be a positive role model.
The FutureU @KU camp dates are Monday 6/8/2026 9am through Wednesday 6/10/2026 12pm, with a required orientation/training on Friday 6/5 from 10am to 2pm. RA must be available 24 hours a day for the duration of the camp.
Successful candidates must be eligible to work in the U.S. by the effective date of the appointment. Successful candidates must be able to pass a background check. KU cannot provide immigration sponsorship for this position.

80% Supervise and Mentor student campers
Use professional ethics, goal setting, policies and procedures of the summer program and supervise students in a group living environment and daily camp activities to ensure their safety and well-being. RA duties include but are not limited to:15% Assist planning and implementing camp activities5% Other duties as assigned.
During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).

- Provide support to and mentor students in personal, social, and academic areas.
- Assess any residence hall problems, process viewpoints, and make decisions in compliance with program guidelines.
- Facilitate, supervise, and engage students during camp activities.
- Serve as a liaison between camp directors and residence hall staff.
- Model a focused, student-centered environment for all participants.
- Manage health problems and medical emergencies for students.
- See that students are up in the morning, participating in the daily agenda as anticipated, and respectful of others.
- Participate in staff orientation/training and attend all staff meetings.
- Help camp staff to plan, organize and implement recreational, social, and cultural activities; participate in all recreational activities, field trips and residential life.
- This position is on-site at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, KS and is required to maintain 24-hour residency, Monday 6/8/2026 9am through Wednesday 6/10/2026 12pm. Attendance at orientation Friday 6/5/2026 from 10am-2pm is also required.
- Previous work experience with college policies and procedures as demonstrated by application materials.
- Previous work experience working within a team setting.
- Experience working with students.
- Experience with with university academics, employment, and student life.
- Tutoring and/or coaching experience.
- Effective communication skills.
- CPR/AED/First Aide certified
- Previous TPE, TRIO, Upward Bound, SOKS, or similar program experience.

- Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.
- This is an hourly/non-exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
