Responsibilities
The Insurance Verification & Scheduling Specialist supports daily business office operations by verifying insurance coverage and eligibility, calculating patient financial responsibility, completing patient registration, and providing excellent customer service to patients and visitors. This role works closely with patients, physician offices, insurance companies, and clinical teams to ensure accurate and timely information throughout the patient experience.
- Verify insurance eligibility, benefits, coverage, and medical policy requirements.
- Calculate deductibles, coinsurance, copays, and estimated patient financial responsibility.
- Communicate insurance benefits, payment expectations, and available payment options to patients.
- Complete accurate patient registration and maintain insurance and demographic information.
- Assign appropriate procedural and diagnostic codes for surgical procedures.
- Coordinate with physician offices regarding authorizations, patient information, and scheduling needs.
- Greet and assist patients and visitors while providing a positive patient experience.
- Answer multi-line phones and route calls professionally.
- Provide scheduling support, including communicating case additions, cancellations, and changes.
- Maintain accurate documentation within applicable patient and scheduling systems.
- Partner with clinical and business office teams to support efficient daily operations.
Qualifications
Job Requirements:
- High school diploma
- Working knowledge of surgical routine and medical terminology
Preferred Job Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree related to healthcare
- AHIMA or AAPC certification
- Registration, Business Office (billing/coding claims) and Health Information Management experience
