The School of Earth, Environment, and Sustainability is seeking an Instructional Services Specialist.
This position will have two primary roles: 1) Provide research coordination and operational support for the Ashton Prairie Living Lab (APLL), 2) Coordination of introductory labs for general education courses in the School of Earth, Environment, and Sustainability. As the APLL coordinator, the individual in this position will be the first point of contact for faculty and staff in the School of Earth, Environment, and Sustainability (SEES), the Athletics Department (groundskeeping), and other units in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the College of Engineering on prairie use. As lab coordinator, the individual in this position will work with SEES faculty on preparation, including ordering and preparing laboratory materials and equipment for introductory laboratory courses. This position will also include assisting faculty in the training and evaluation of teaching assistants (TAs) and Visiting Assistant Professors for each of these courses, development and testing of new laboratory protocols and materials, revisions of existing lab teaching materials, and maintenance of and adherence to laboratory safety protocols within each lab space.
Key Responsibilities
- Work in collaboration with faculty to develop new laboratory exercises or revise/update existing protocols and to develop undergraduate research projects.
- Assist in evaluating student learning outcomes and proposing changes to improve outcomes.
- Ensure proper functioning of equipment and specimens.
- Participate in weekly staff/TA meetings for each teaching lab.
- Train undergraduate researchers on technical aspects and safety protocols for field equipment.

Education Required
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field (geology, environmental science, etc.) in hand by start date; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Qualifications
- At least one year of related experience.
- Proven ability to manage daily operations in an office environment, including experience coordinating complex schedules.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience creating and distributing professional communications or updates.
- Knowledge and experience using Microsoft Office support tools available: Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc. (working proficiency).
- Ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize, and meet deadlines in a highly organized manner.
- Excellent organizational and customer service skills and the ability to resolve first-point-of-contact inquiries, triage issues, and provide guidance or escalation as necessary.
- Valid driver’s license and the ability to meet and maintain University Driving Policy standards
Desired Qualifications
- 2-3 years of related experience.
- Basic experience maintaining websites, databases or working with the Drupal platform.
- Experience with oversight of complex, multi-faceted organizational administration; experience with different stakeholder interests (students, faculty, administration, alumni).
- Basic knowledge of University policies and procedures.
