Duties/Responsibilities
Duties/Responsibilities
Conducting laboratory research, experimental design and set up, and performing experiments. This will/can include DNA/RNA/Protein extractions, PCR, quantitative real-time PCR, protein gels and assays, microscopy, single cell disassociations, preparation of single cell libraries, QC of sequencing libraries, and project management of sequencing libraries runs. Conducting standard life history analyses of insect under control and experimental conditions. Management of insect colonies to support these objectives.
Percentage of time 50 Duties/Responsibilities
Conducing bioinformatic, microscropy image, and data analyses. This will include QC and analysis of experimental data from functional genomic, epigenetic, microscopy, and single cell RNA-seq experiments.
Percentage of time 30 Duties/Responsibilities
Preparation of manuscript for peer-reviewed journals, presentation of project objective and experiments at national and international meetings, mentoring students, and assisting other laboratory members with experiments as needed.

This position will fulfill the research goals of the USDA-ARS Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement “Managing whiteflies and whitefly-transmitted viruses in vegetable crops in the southeastern U.S.” under the direction of Dr. Christopher Cunningham. Support the single-cell RNA-sequencing and/or the identification of DNA methyltransferase 1’s protein partner objectives therein, support general laboratory operations and science objectives. This position will also be responsible for seeking and helping prepare extramural funding applications to support the ongoing and new science objectives of Dr. Cunningham’s group.
