Position Summary

The Repository Stacks Specialist is a temporary, 18-month position responsible to the Repository Coordinator for assisting with the general operations of the Library’s remote storage facility (Repository). This includes shelving and accessioning incoming material, pulling items for circulation, and scanning items for electronic delivery. In addition, the Stacks Specialist assists with the training and supervision of part-time student assistants.

Work will be performed in a warehouse environment with rolling staircases, ladders, pallet jacks, and scissor lifts. Work will primarily take place in the UGA Libraries off-campus storage facility known as the Repository, located in Athens, GA at the intersections of Whitehall Road and Milledge Avenue.

This position has a limited term appointment which is expected to end 18 months after start date. The position may be extended beyond the initial term, contingent upon continued funding.

  • Ability to operatean order-picker and/or scissor lift preferred.

Physical Demands

  • Standing forlong periodsof time.
  • Stooping, pushing, climbing ladders.
  • Lifting objects weighing up to 65 pounds.
  • Ability to perform tasks at heights of up to 35ft work from a scissor lift or rolling staircase.
  • Rolling book trucks/dollies weighing up to 200 lbs. on a variety of surfaces including inclines.
  • Working with materials that may include dust, book mold, and other related contaminants.
  • Working in a low temperature (50 degrees), low humidity environment, as well as a high temperature environment (80 degrees).
  • Working at a computer for sustained periods of time.
  • Driving a state vehicle (maintaininga valid Georgia Driver’s License and safe driving record).

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Shelves and densifies incoming and existing materials including unloading pallets, building shelves, and shifting collections; accessions items into the storage inventory management database CaiaSoft.

Percentage of time 50 Duties/Responsibilities

  • Assists with incoming circulation and document delivery requests by confirming requests in the Libraries catalog Alma, circulating items in CaiaSoft, and scanning document delivery requests using overhead/flatbed scanners. Occasionally assists with circulation deliveries to the Main Library.

Percentage of time 25 Duties/Responsibilities

  • Assists in supervising and training student assistants on accessioning and circulating materials.

Maintains flexibility and awareness of changes and needs in the department and Libraries by assuming similar duties and responsibilities as assigned.
