Purpose of the Position:
The Group Fitness Instructor will be responsible for providing appropriate group exercise and quality fitness instruction for University Fitness Center members, to include students, faculty, staff, community members, and participants.

- Serve as a subject matter expertise in appropriate group exercise and quality fitness instruction for University Fitness Center members, to include students, faculty, staff, community members, and participants
- Prepare materials, equipment and location for class offerings
- Provide guidance and support to class participants both individually and corporately
- Conduct an assessment of class participation and satisfaction
- Ensure teaching methods and modalities are accepted as safe and appropriate by University Recreation
- Exercise sound independent judgement and employ reasoning skills
- Provide a welcoming and inclusive environment for all participants
- Arrive promptly for class and provide instruction for the entire advertised class time period
Minimum Requirements:
- High school education or equivalent
- 0-8 years of full-time verifiable related work experience
- Must be certified or be able to attain a certification in some form of Group Exercise Instruction within 1 year of time of hire
- Must be able to acquire a current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), first aid, and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certification within 6 months of time of hire
- Working knowledge of program activities and the ability to adhere to and enforce University Fitness Center policies and procedures is required
Desired Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree is preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in a Sports & Facilities Management or Kinesiology preferred
- Willingness to seek additional training or certifications as needed to enhance leadership and instruction is desired
- Additional training or certification in a fitness-related field is preferred
- Have multiple certifications or be able to teach multiple formats

$20.00 - $30.00 (FTE=$41,600 - $62,400)
