Approved Compensation: Average of 3 hours per week @ $25/hour

Jesus also said go into the world proclaiming the good news and baptizing to make disciples in all nations; and that is the essence of living our faith.

Purpose: To provide dependable, safe, secure, and nurturing care to children, ages 0-5 years, in a clean and safe environment.

Schedule: Childcare hours include every Sunday between the hours of 8:30 AM to 11:30 AM during the regular program year. Hours may vary during the summer, special services/events, and holidays.

Dependability is essential. Tardiness and excessive absences negatively impact the program and may result in termination. Any planned absences should have a two-week written notice submitted directly to the Nursery Coordinator. If the absence is unexpected, the Church Nursery Worker must notify the Nursery Coordinator immediately. A list of nursery volunteers will be maintained for substitutes.

Requirements:

• At least 18 years of age
• Satisfactory completion of VDSS-CPS background check
• Satisfactory completion of First Aid and CPR training for infants and children
• Satisfactory completion of Safe Sanctuaries training
• Three references

Essential Functions:

• Greets each child and calls him/her by name when dropped off by parent(s)/guardians.

• Polite, friendly, and courteous to all children, parents, and volunteers

• Completes Nursery Registration Records and communicates special needs to volunteers and Nursery Coordinators.

• Arrives on time to the nursery at least 15 minutes prior to the service for which they are scheduled. Stays until all children are secured with a responsible adult named on the child’s registration form.

• Responsible for age-appropriate care which includes feeding, changing diapers, escorting to the bathroom, maintaining a safe environment, putting children down for naps, holding, sitting with and cheerfully interacting with children through games, books, stories, and play.

• Engages children in organized activities while staying in nursery, i.e. age appropriate songs, stories, lessons, crafts, etc.

• Maintains good handwashing/hand hygiene after diaper changes and after assisting children with tissues for coughs, sneezes, or runny noses

• Wears gloves while changing diapers and disinfects diaper changing area after each diaper change

• Straightens the room and cleans/sanitizes any toys/beds that were used that Sunday after children have left

• Abides by all Safe Sanctuary policies of the local United Methodist Church at all times

• Participates in an evaluation after a 90-day probationary period and thereafter annually. After this probationary period either party may terminate employment without cause. Beyond this, a two-week written notice is required

• Ensures safety of the nursery environment, i.e. cleaning products and medications stored out of reach of children, outlet covers on electrical outlets, etc

• Other duties as assigned as nursery needs, position, and processes evolve

Qualifications

• Strong Christian values, grounded in the faith with knowledge and/or a desire to learn more of the scriptures and Methodism

• Experience in caring for children between the ages of 0 to 5 with the ability to adapt and interact with a variety of personalities.
