The Holston Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church is seeking an Intergenerational Ministries Specialist to lead and strengthen ministries that span the full generational spectrum - children, youth, young adults, and older adults. This position reports to the Executive Director of Connectional Ministries & Congregational Development and plays a vital role in developing, growing, and sustaining discipleship systems across the Conference.
The ideal candidate is a spiritually grounded, relational, and adaptive leader who thrives in both established systems and innovative environments. This person will coach and equip others to lead, foster intergenerational connections, and create ministry action plans that align with the mission and vision of the Holston Conference.
Spiritual Leadership & Team Development (35%)
- Shepherd, coach, and mentor ministry leaders, guiding them to create healthy and sustainable systems of discipleship.
- Equip and empower leaders to develop and implement Ministry Action Plans (MAPs) aligned with the mission and vision of the Conference.
- Build and nurture teams grounded in spiritual, relational, and missional accountability.
Intergenerational Ministry Oversight (25%)
- Provide spiritual and administrative leadership for Children’s, Youth, Young Adult, and Older Adult Ministries across the Holston Conference.
- Collaborate with local churches, ministry leaders, and boards to strengthen ministries that make and multiply disciples.
- Support intergenerational initiatives that connect generations through shared worship, service, and learning.
Adaptive Leadership & Innovation (15%)
- Lead through adaptive challenges, discerning what should be preserved, adjusted, or newly created.
- Develop new ministry models and systems that respond to emerging needs within the Conference.
- Integrate strategic planning, innovation, and spiritual discernment into all areas of ministry.
Collaboration & Communication (15%)
- Build strong, connectional relationships across churches, districts, and Conference boards and committees.
- Communicate effectively to align goals, share best practices, and support shared ministry efforts.
- Participate actively in Conference teams that model spiritual, relational, and missional health.
Evaluation & Outcomes (10%)
- Evaluate ministry fruitfulness by assessing team health, leadership development, and the effectiveness of Ministry Action Plans.
- Encourage accountability and continuous improvement in all ministry areas.
- Report outcomes and success stories that demonstrate discipleship growth and leadership multiplication.
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced theological or leadership training preferred.
- 3–5 years of demonstrated experience leading adaptive change and building teams or systems.
- Proven ability to coach, mentor, and develop leaders.
- Familiarity with intergenerational ministry contexts and best practices.
- Excellent relational, organizational, and communication skills.
- Deep personal commitment to spiritual formation and disciple-making.
- Embodies the character of Christ and models a life of discipleship.
- Practices personal and team-based accountability in spiritual, relational, and missional health.
- Demonstrates humility, courage, and grace in leadership.
