Fabricator/Welder – Short-Term Manufacturing Project
Location: Chesaning, Michigan
Employment Type: Temporary Project Assignment
Project Duration: Approximately 3 weeks with potential for extension
Pay: Up to $23/hr. based on experience
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM
Position Overview
A manufacturing and fabrication operation in Chesaning is seeking an experienced Fabricator/Welder for a short-term project. This position will support production by fabricating, fitting, welding, modifying, and finishing metal components and assemblies. The ideal candidate can safely interpret job instructions, use fabrication equipment, and produce consistent welds while meeting project deadlines and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Fabricate and weld metal components according to project requirements.
- Perform MIG, TIG, or stick welding based on materials and specifications.
- Measure, mark, cut, drill, grind, fit, and assemble materials.
- Interpret blueprints, fabrication drawings, measurements, and work instructions.
- Prepare materials and joints before welding.
- Set up and adjust welding equipment for assigned work.
- Inspect welds and completed assemblies for strength, appearance, dimensions, and defects.
- Use grinders, saws, drills, torches, clamps, and other fabrication tools.
- Assist with the setup and operation of fabrication machinery.
- Position, align, clamp, and secure components before welding.
- Complete minor rework and repairs when components do not meet specifications.
- Move, stage, and organize raw materials and completed assemblies.
- Maintain an organized and hazard-free workstation.
- Follow all safety procedures, work instructions, and PPE requirements.
- Coordinate with production employees and supervisors to meet project deadlines.
- Perform additional fabrication and manufacturing duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Previous professional welding or metal-fabrication experience.
- Demonstrated proficiency in at least one welding process: MIG, TIG, or stick.
- Ability to use basic fabrication and precision measuring tools.
- Experience cutting, grinding, drilling, fitting, and assembling metal components.
- Ability to follow verbal and written work instructions.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
- Ability to visually inspect welds and identify common defects.
- Dependable attendance and punctuality throughout the assignment.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Comfortable standing, bending, reaching, lifting, and performing repetitive physical tasks.
- Ability to lift and move materials as required.
- Must be available Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM throughout the full project.
