POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Peer Mentor is primarily responsible for providing remote and in-person mentoring, basic case management, and relational support for a rolling case load of 8 to 12 adult male and female survivors of human trafficking. Services could be provided throughout the state; however regional priority will be given to survivors living in the Greater Hartford Area. Travel will be required for the position.
HOURS AND BENEFITS
This is a full-time position (40 hours/week) with some weekend and evening hours required. There is a 90-day probationary period and semi-annual and annual reviews. Healthcare stipend, Generous PTO, and mileage reimbursement provided. Compensation is competitive.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Program Staff & Collaboratives
- Work closely with the clinical supervisor, lead mentor, other mentors, and UGNE staff.
- Attend internal team meetings, supervision, and other meetings, as required.
- Maintain meaningful service relationships with local organizations and agencies.
- Additional tasks as needed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Adult Mentor Program Participants
- Provide advocacy and mentorship for adults recovering from experiences of human trafficking, complex sexualized trauma, addiction, and/or chronic homelessness.
- Provide the various mentor services outlined in UGNE’s 4 Phases of Care.
- Work with mentees to develop and implement SMART (specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, time-bound) goals and steps to reach those goals.
- Perform intakes and assessments with adult survivors of human trafficking and make appropriate referrals.
- Provide crisis stabilization services and safety planning as needed.
- Provide mobile peer support, accompaniment to resource appointments, and ongoing mentorship with participants, including transportation as needed.
- Run life skill groups such as Ending the Game
- Provide 1on1 psycho-education to clients utilizing tools such as Seeking Safety
- Basic case management duties such as assisting individuals with accessing housing assistance, government provided services, applications, etc.
- Maintain strict confidentiality for the safety of participants.
- Accurately and timely chart all client interactions in UGNE’s database.
- Attend ongoing training as appropriate.
- Present a positive, professional image of UGNE.
- Additional tasks as needed.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Commitment and interest in the process of surviving and healing from human trafficking, complex sexual trauma, addiction, homelessness, and helping others in their healing.
- Personal knowledge of recovering from sex or labor exploitation with several years of demonstrated recovery and healing.
- Demonstrated experience in delivering effective one-on-one support and encouragement to peers.
- Case management experience or comparable knowledge of local resources.
- Organization and time management skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with sensitivity to diversity of audience.
- Effective use of diplomacy skills involving issues which are sensitive in nature.
- Basic competency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) or Google Drive and other computer software.
- Demonstrated flexible and positive attitude when working with others of all backgrounds and experiences.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIRMENTS
- A minimum of a high school diploma or GED
- CCAR Recovery Coach Academy or equivalent Recovery Coach Certification (can be in progress for hiring, must be completed within 30 days of hiring).
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- A compassionate understanding of how to move one’s life forward after experiences of human trafficking, complex sexual trauma, addiction, and chronic homelessness.
- Current driver's license and personal vehicle with required insurance coverage.
- Bilingual language skills are preferred.
- Willingness to participate in a background check, driving record check, and drug test.
