Position Overview
Reporting to Front Office or other assigned leadership, the Night Auditor supports overnight Front Office operations, guest service, required audit processes, and accurate end-of-day reporting.
This role works independently during overnight hours while maintaining clear communication, following established procedures, and escalating guest, safety, financial, or operational concerns to leadership as appropriate.

Key ResponsibilitiesGuest Experience & Front Office Support
- Welcome guests and provide courteous, efficient service throughout the overnight shift.
- Respond to guest needs, requests, and questions with professionalism, empathy, and clear communication.
- Support guest registration, check-in/check-out, room assignments, payment collection, and accurate registration documentation.
- Explain charges, finalize guest accounts, and assist with billing questions within established procedures.
- Share accurate information about hotel services, amenities, room types, promotions, local directions, dining, shopping, and entertainment options.
- Use sound judgment to help de-escalate guest concerns, provide service recovery within role authority, and escalate complex matters appropriately.
- Complete assigned night audit duties accurately and within required timelines.
- Review, post, reconcile, and verify transactions such as room and tax, payments, adjustments, and other applicable charges.
- Maintain accurate accounting of cash, credit card, and other payment transactions in accordance with cash handling and financial control procedures.
- Prepare, organize, and distribute required overnight reports, logs, and shift documentation.
- Identify discrepancies, incomplete information, or unusual activity and communicate concerns to the appropriate leader.
- Maintain confidentiality and accuracy when handling guest, financial, and operational information.
- Perform Front Office duties as needed to support overnight service flow and operational continuity.
- Pre-assign rooms while considering guest preferences, special requests, accessibility needs, VIP details, and operational priorities.
- Transmit and receive guest and colleague messages accurately and promptly.
- Communicate room status changes, guest needs, and operational updates to Housekeeping, Engineering, Security, Food & Beverage, and other applicable departments.
- Complete clear pass-down communication for the morning team and leadership, including unresolved guest matters, room issues, safety concerns, and audit notes.
- Stay informed of hotel selling strategies, rates, packages, promotions, and occupancy needs to support reservations and guest inquiries.
- Assist with valet coordination, luggage support, guest transportation coordination, or other service needs when business demands require, within hotel procedures.
- Follow all company safety, security, privacy, emergency, cash handling, and guest information procedures.
- Remain alert to overnight property activity and report guest, colleague, safety, or security concerns promptly.
- Follow uniform, grooming, attendance, and professional appearance standards.
- Complete other duties as assigned by Front Office leadership or hotel management.
- Use the hotel property management system to support registration, room assignments, postings, audit procedures, reporting, and guest account accuracy.
- Use payment processing tools, phone systems, email, shift logs, reporting tools, and other standard Front Office communication platforms as required.
- Use Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Microsoft 365, Opera, or similar business tools and software as needed for communication and documentation.
- Additional systems may be assigned based on hotel needs, including reservations, guest messaging, service requests, safety/security communication, or operational reporting systems.
Education
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
- 6-12 months of related guest service, hospitality, front desk, customer service, administrative, cashiering, or similar experience preferred.
- Hotel or Front Office experience preferred, but not required when the candidate demonstrates transferable service, communication, reliability, and attention to detail.
- Overnight shift experience preferred.
- Ability to learn and use hotel systems, payment tools, reporting processes, and standard office technology.
- Ability to read, understand, and communicate clearly in English to support guest service, safety, documentation, and team communication.
- Basic math, cash handling, and attention to detail skills needed to support accurate guest accounts and audit work.
- Ability to follow procedures, complete recurring tasks accurately, and ask for clarification when needed.
