Summary Description
Under the direct supervision of the job site supervisor, assists with tasks related to the installation of structured cabling systems. Primarily assists with the installation of cable pathways and installation of overhead cabling.
Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions
- Complies with and ensures compliance with all Tri-M and customer safety policies and procedures
- Complies with and ensures compliance with all Tri-M employment policies and procedures including standards of conduct and appearance to reflect positively on the Company
- Completes appropriate level of skill development and on-the-job training
- Safeguards and maintains Tri-M equipment, material, tools and vehicles
- Interprets entry level telecommunication drawings and provides input on the layout of the specified system
- Installs primary and secondary cable raceway systems in a more unsupervised manner
- Installs horizontal and backbone cabling in the absence of the job site supervisor
- Performs copper cabling termination tasks at the work area location
- Performs labeling tasks of equipment/telecommunication rooms
- Assists with the testing of copper cable and has a basic understanding of trouble shooting procedures
- Performs high count copper terminations in an unsupervised environment
- Responds to emergency service requests outside of regular duty hours when called upon
Education & Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Basic math and measurement skills
- Good mechanical aptitude and proficiency with common hand tools
- Ability to use basic power tools (e.g. drills, circular saws, band saws, etc.)
- Basic personal computing skills and familiarity with Microsoft office programs to include Outlook, Excel and Word.
- Must have reliable personal transportation to and from the assigned work location/office
- Must maintain a valid drivers license and good driving record
- Must purchase Company required personal tools (see attached list) and maintain in good condition
- Ability and willingness to travel regionally/nationally to jobsites
- Working 40 plus hours/week, scheduled in 8 to 10 hour shifts. Working overtime as needed.
- Standing and climbing 4 to 6 hours/day
- Kneeling, lifting, reaching above shoulders, and bending (90°) 4 to 5 hours/day
- Twisting (180°) and walking 2 to 3 hours/day
- Squatting and sitting 1 to 2 hours/day
- Lifting weights of 0 to 100 lbs. at the following frequencies: continuous lifting of 10 to 35 lbs.; frequent lifting of 35 to 50 lbs.; occasional lifting of 50 to 100 lbs.; sizes & shapes of objects vary from concrete blocks to cylinders to 20' lengths of conduit; average carry requirements, 60 lbs. for 40'
- Ability to lift from floor to above shoulder
- Repetitive use of hands includes: continuous grasping up to 50 lbs.; frequent pushing and pulling of 50 to 75 lbs.; and fine motor coordination for receptacle installation and wire terminations
- Repetitive use of feet is required for operating conduit benders and vertical climbing
- Vision adequate for blueprint reading and color coding for wire identification
- Balance adequate for continuous climbing of ladders, scaffolds, and lifts
- Environmental factors include working in: temperature extremes of 0°F to 100°F; up to 8 hours inside or outside; atmospheric exposure to dust, gases, fumes, odors; and poor ventilation in confined spaces
- Special hazards include exposure to mechanical, electrical, chemical, and explosive hazards
- Personal protective equipment includes use of hardhat, safety glasses, steel-toed shoes, and gloves. Equipment on an "as needed" basis may include lanyards, safety harness, face mask, respirator, hearing protection and Nomex suit
