The Transition Academy (TTA) is a workforce readiness agency established in 2019. Our mission is to prepare students with disabilities to transition from school into meaningful careers through real-world learning and workforce development opportunities.


Since 2019, TTA has worked to meet youth with disabilities and families where they are, help them explore their interests, talents and skills, and connect them to workforce and job training pathways. TTA works primarily with Kansas City Public Schools and charter schools in Jackson County.


Position Summary: 


The Transition Academy is seeking a Real World Learning Coordinator to lead and deliver classroom-based career readiness programming for high school students with disabilities (IEPs). This is a highly student-facing, 100% in-person position. The Coordinator will teach Real World Learning lessons directly to students, support students in developing career readiness and employment skills, coordinate hands-on learning and workplace experiences, and monitor student progress.


The Coordinator will also build strong relationships with students and families and conduct monthly in-person meetings with families, often in the family’s home or through individual meetings, to understand student needs, connect families to resources and supports, and help ensure each student is positioned for success.


The Coordinator will support and mentor instructors, oversee curriculum implementation and instructional materials, coordinate employer and community partnerships, maintain accurate student and program data, and complete required reporting and documentation.


Reporting:

Real World Learning Coordinator reports to the Program and Services Director and works as part of a cross-trained team.

Key Responsibilities:

Curriculum Development & Instructional Leadership

  • Teach and facilitate classroom-based Real World Learning and career readiness programming for high school students with disabilities, using curriculum and instructional strategies that help students explore career pathways and develop essential employment skills.
  • Provide instructional leadership and coaching to instructors to ensure consistent, high-quality program delivery.
  • Support students in earning market value assets, including industry-recognized credentials, internships, apprenticeships, and client-connected projects.
  • Coordinate industry engagement activities, including inviting industry professionals into the classroom, facilitating career exploration and workplace field trips, and creating hands-on opportunities for students to learn about various employment settings.
  • Monitor curriculum implementation and recommend enhancements.


Program Oversight & Data Management  

  • Oversee the collection and entry of program data, including attendance, participation, and student progress, to ensure accuracy and compliance with reporting requirements. 
  • Review program outcomes and data trends to identify opportunities for continuous improvement. 
  • Assist in developing and maintaining documentation that supports student transition planning and program accountability. 


Family Engagement & Partnership Coordination

  • Lead the coordination of Real World Learning activities, employer engagement opportunities, and logistics for workplace tours, job site visits, and other experiential learning opportunities.
  • Serve as a liaison with school staff, community partners, and employers to strengthen partnerships and ensure successful program implementation.
  • Conduct monthly in-person meetings with students and families, often in the home or through individual meetings, to identify student and family needs, coordinate supports, address barriers to participation and employment, and ensure students are making progress toward their transition goals.


Program Administration & Reporting  

  • Ensure timely, accurate, and complete submission of program and grant reports. 
  • Provide regular updates to The Transition Academy leadership regarding program progress, challenges, and recommendations for improvement.


Desired Qualifications:

●       College degree or industry certification in a related field is preferred. Relevant work experience will be considered.

●       Experience in program coordination or youth services with demonstrated experience working with students with disabilities.  

●       Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.

●       Proficiency in standard office software (e.g., Google Workspace, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel). Three to five years experience in CRM data entry, Salesforce, and project management tools.

●       A commitment to fostering inclusivity and a passion for serving youth with disabilities.


Salary: $70,000 - $73,000
