With that in mind, we are looking for a Fabrication Project Engineer to join our Windom, MN team. In this role you will serve as a senior technical leader responsible for developing and implementing advanced manufacturing solutions that improve safety, quality, delivery, and cost performance across the organization. This role leads complex engineering initiatives, provides technical direction and mentorship to engineering team members, and collaborates with cross-functional stakeholders to support business objectives. The Engineer IV leverages extensive manufacturing expertise to drive continuous improvement, support new product introductions, and establish long-term manufacturing strategies that enhance operational excellence and organizational growth.

What Will You Do?

  • Lead the planning, development, and implementation of complex manufacturing processes, equipment, tooling, and facility improvements that support operational and strategic business objectives.
  • Serve as a technical expert for manufacturing engineering activities, providing guidance, mentorship, and training to Manufacturing Engineers, Technicians, and cross-functional team members.
  • Lead cross-functional teams in the successful introduction of new products and manufacturing technologies, ensuring production readiness, launch success, quality requirements, and cost objectives are achieved.
  • Develop and execute long-term manufacturing strategies that improve productivity, capacity, safety, quality, and operational efficiency through lean manufacturing and continuous improvement principles.
  • Identify, prioritize, and lead high-impact cost reduction, value engineering, automation, and capital investment initiatives; prepare business cases, feasibility studies, and return-on-investment analyses to support recommendations.
  • Drive plant layout optimization, workflow improvements, and material flow strategies to increase throughput, reduce waste, and support future growth requirements.
  • Establish engineering standards, best practices, and manufacturing specifications to ensure consistency, scalability, and compliance across manufacturing operations.
  • Analyze manufacturing performance metrics, quality data, capacity utilization, and process variation to identify improvement opportunities and implement sustainable corrective actions.
  • Review product designs and provide strategic manufacturing input to improve manufacturability, quality, reliability, and overall product cost throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Lead the evaluation, selection, installation, and validation of new manufacturing equipment, technologies, and automation systems while ensuring alignment with safety and operational requirements.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Product Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, and Leadership teams to resolve complex manufacturing challenges and achieve business goals.
  • Prepare and deliver technical presentations, project updates, and recommendations to leadership teams, effectively communicating risks, opportunities, timelines, and expected outcomes.
  • Champion a culture of safety, continuous improvement, innovation, and employee development while fostering positive working relationships across all levels of the organization.
  • Meet or exceed expectations for technical expertise, project leadership, innovation, productivity, continuous improvement, and safety performance.

Leadership Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to Manufacturing Engineers and Engineering Technicians.
  • Lead project teams and influence cross-functional stakeholders without direct authority.
  • Support engineering talent development through coaching, knowledge sharing, and onboarding of new team members.
  • Facilitate problem-solving efforts for complex manufacturing issues and drive organizational alignment on solutions.
  • Lead department and plant-wide continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Contribute to strategic planning, capital planning, and manufacturing roadmap development.
  • Serve as the engineering representative for major operational and business initiatives.

What Do You Need?

  • Bachelors of Engineering degree in manufacturing, mechanical, or related field.
  • Fabrication Project Engineer III: 4-6 years of experience in Manufacturing Engineering or related field.
  • Fabrication Project Engineer IV: 7 years of experience in Manufacturing Engineering or related field.
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of heavy machinery manufacturing processes.
  • Knowledge or experience with tool and/or equipment design and drafting using Solid Modeling/CAD.
  • Have a good work record, including indications of strong self-motivation, high productivity, reliable attendance, attention to quality, ability to learn new skills, and a cordial, cooperative personality.
  • Knowledge of TOC, and Lean methods used in manufacturing processes is a plus.

Other Job-Related Components

  • Plant environment much of the time. The shop environment includes variable temperature and humidity, noise, and dirt;
  • Physical hazards such as powered vehicle, bicycle, and pedestrian traffic, sharp objects, moving machinery, arc-welding and other electrical equipment, and high-voltage power supplies.
  • Hazardous materials such as fuels, oils, grease, paint, solvents, coolant, pressurized gases, various acids and caustics, cleaners, and metals.
  • Occasional outdoor work in all kinds of weather.
  • Variable work schedule, with hours that vary according to the needs of the job. During emergencies or critical deadlines, this employee must work until the job is finished.
  • Rapidly changing workloads and priorities, multiple requests from numerous managers, and conflicting deadlines.

  • Competitive Salary – The pay range takes into account skills, experience, education, and location. It is not common to be hired at or near the top of the range; compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the annual pay range is between $90,000 - $130,000 . Cash compensation is one piece of our competitive total rewards package. You may be eligible to participate in an incentive program, which rewards employees based on individual and organizational performance.
