Position Overview:
The Toledo Humane Society Rehabilitation Center is always accepting resumes for Animal Care and Enrichment Specialists and will be in contact with interested candidates when positions become available.
The THS’s Rehabilitation Center, is our facility designed to house and rehabilitate dogs that are confiscated from cruelty and neglect. The goal of the entire THS Rehabilitation team is to work together to improve these dogs’ quality of life and prepare them for life in adoptive homes.
Responsibilities:
Provide daily care and support for dogs, adhering to THS’s standard operating procedures.
Ensure the comfort and cleanliness of the shelter animal population on a daily basis.
Monitor and help maintain the medical and behavioral health of shelter dogs; documenting all medical and behavioral concerns and observations on a daily basis.
Assist as requested in behavior treatments and interventions.
Provide a safe and compassionate environment for dogs in our care, and our staff, by using low-stress handling techniques.
Assist in play groups as directed by the Behavior team.
Prepare and distribute enrichment as directed.
Assist in the intake and vaccination of newly arrived dogs, ensuring proper documentation and care.
Administer medications to shelter dogs following established protocols and guidelines.
Qualifications:
Must be a compassionate caregiver for animals and have a genuine interest in working with others; maintain a consistently positive attitude
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Ability to work closely with behaviorally challenging animals
Must be able to lift up to 100 lbs with assistance, carry up to 50 lbs
Ability to work on weekends and holidays
