TIME Organization, Inc. is a Baltimore-based behavioral health and human services nonprofit serving thousands of youth and adults across Maryland since 2000. Our licensed residential child care group homes provide therapeutic, 24-hour awake care for youth in foster care.

The Residential Child Care Direct Support Worker provides safe, structured, trauma-informed care and supervision to youth living in our group homes. This role is the day-to-day consistent adult in a young person's life — supporting daily routines, school, life skills, treatment goals, and positive behavior while maintaining a safe, nurturing home environment.

Key Responsibilities

Supervision and Safety

  • Provide continuous, awake, line-of-sight supervision of assigned youth, including one-to-one supervision as required by each youth's plan
  • Complete scheduled bed checks, headcounts, and room/safety checks; maintain a clean, hazard-free home
  • Use approved de-escalation and crisis intervention techniques; use physical intervention only as trained and authorized, and only as a last resort
  • Follow emergency, fire, runaway/AWOL, and incident procedures; report incidents immediately to the supervisor on duty
  • Serve as a mandated reporter and report suspected abuse or neglect as required by Maryland law

Daily Living and Youth Development

  • Support morning and evening routines, hygiene, meals, chores, homework, and bedtime
  • Teach and model independent living skills (cooking, budgeting, laundry, time management, healthy relationships)
  • Plan and lead structured recreational, educational, and community activities
  • Encourage school attendance and engagement; support homework and communicate with school staff as directed
  • Build positive, professional, trauma-informed relationships with youth while maintaining appropriate boundaries

Treatment and Behavior Support

  • Implement each youth's individual service plan, behavior support plan, and treatment goals
  • Support therapeutic programming and coordinate with therapists, case managers, and DSS caseworkers
  • Observe and document behavior, mood, and progress toward goals
  • Administer or assist with medications only if certified as a Medication Technician (CMT) and per agency policy

Documentation and Communication

  • Complete accurate, timely shift notes, daily logs, incident reports, and other records in the electronic health record and on required forms
  • Participate in shift-change reports, staff meetings, and team/treatment meetings
  • Protect youth confidentiality in line with HIPAA, COMAR, and agency policy

Transportation (if assigned)

  • Transport youth to school, appointments, family visits, and activities using agency vehicles, following all transportation safety policies

Other

  • Complete all required initial and annual trainings
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required

  • At least 21 years of age
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Maryland Residential Child and Youth Care Practitioner (RCYCP) certification, or eligibility and willingness to obtain it within the timeframe required by the Maryland Board for Certification of Residential Child Care Program Professionals
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check (CJIS fingerprinting, state and federal) and Child Protective Services clearance before working with youth
  • Pre-employment health screening/TB test as required
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record (for positions that include transportation)
  • CPR and First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain before working independently
  • Completion of agency-approved crisis prevention and behavior management training
  • Ability to read, write, and document clearly in English and use a computer/EHR

Preferred

  • At least 1 year of experience working with youth in residential, group home, foster care, school, or behavioral health settings
  • Associate's or bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, human services, education, or a related field
  • Current RCYCP certification
  • Certified Medication Technician (CMT)
  • Experience with trauma-informed care, de-escalation, or youth with emotional and behavioral needs

Skills and Qualities

  • Patience, consistency, and sound judgment under pressure
  • Strong boundaries and professionalism
  • Reliability and punctuality — youth depend on staff arriving on time for every shift
  • Teamwork and clear communication
