What are the responsibilities and job description for the Captain / Lead Server position at The Swing Golf Lounge?
We are seeking an experienced, polished Captain to lead service on the floor and deliver an exceptional guest experience. The Captain serves as the senior point of contact for a section of the dining room, overseeing servers and back waiters while ensuring every table receives seamless, attentive, and elevated service from arrival to departure. This role requires deep product knowledge, refined hospitality instincts, and the ability to anticipate guest needs before they're voiced.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee and direct service for an assigned station/section, ensuring consistency with the restaurant's standards of excellence
- Greet, seat, and personally manage the guest experience for VIP and regular guests
- Present and explain the menu, including detailed knowledge of ingredients, preparation methods, and sourcing
- Make informed food and wine pairing recommendations; coordinate with the sommelier as needed
- Take food and beverage orders with precision, accommodating dietary restrictions and special requests
- Coordinate timing of courses with the kitchen to ensure smooth pacing of each table
- Perform tableside service as required (e.g., carving, flambéing, deboning, sauce finishing, decanting wine)
- Supervise, mentor, and support servers, back waiters, and runners within the section
- Maintain constant table awareness — anticipating needs, clearing courses, refreshing settings, and resolving issues discreetly
- Handle guest concerns or complaints with professionalism, escalating to management when necessary
- Ensure mise en place and table settings meet presentation standards before and during service
- Process payments accurately and manage check presentation with discretion
- Uphold all health, safety, and sanitation standards
- Participate in pre-shift briefings, including menu changes, specials, and VIP notes
- Assist management with training new front-of-house staff
