Title: Early Childhood Teacher

Job Summary:
This position facilitates learning for young children in an Early Childhood classroom using an approved developmentally and culturally appropriate curriculum which promotes consistent daily routines and the social, emotional, physical, and intellectual growth of children in our early learning program.
Duties:
- Work collaboratively with other team members maintaining a professional environment at all times.
- Share classroom responsibilities (classroom clean-up/classroom maintenance) with all classroom teaching staff.
- Plan, develop and maintain a positive, nurturing, strength based learning environment that meets
Federal Performance Standards/Licensing Regulations and is consistent with the Creative Curriculum, Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS), and the Infant Toddler Environmental Rating Scale (ITERS) or the Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale (ECERS).
- Participate in development and implementation of activities for indoor and outdoor learning environment with teaching team.
- Plan and coordinate at least three off-site field trips per year with teaching team.
- Frequent computer usage including Microsoft Office programs and web based data management systems, including daily data entry of ChildPlus Data Management System information
- Use Teaching Strategies GOLD and the Creative Curriculum to develop weekly lesson plans with other teaching staff and submit them via the internet to Education/Disabilities Manager for approval.
Integrate all components into the weekly lesson plan.
- Use Teaching Strategies GOLD on-going assessment system to conduct child observations, progress checkpoints, individualized goal setting, portfolio collections and developmental reports for all children. Maintain TS GOLD entries according to Record Keeping timeline.
- Plan individualized activities that support the goals set, in collaboration with parents, for each child.
- Serve as a member of a multi-disciplinary team for a child with an Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) or Individualized Education Plan (IEP).
- Provide classroom activities that support IFSP/IEP goals in collaboration with Holly Ridge (Part C Provider) or North Kitsap School District (Part B Provider).
- Develop and implement Transition Plans with parents and other applicable programs, o to ensure smooth transitions occur between programs (from EHS to HS/ECEAP/Preschool and from Preschool/HS/ECEAP to Kindergarten)
- Assist with health screenings as required by Health Coordinator.
- Administer the Ages and Stages (ASQ-3) Developmental Screener, in collaboration with parents, within the first 45 days of child entry into the program and subsequent rescreens as needed.
- Administer the Devereux Early Childhood Assessment (DECA), in collaboration with parents, within the first 45 days of child entry into the program and two more times throughout the school year as outlined by the Record Keeping Timeline.
- Keep all required files, screenings, assessments and follow-ups of children current and up-to-date, meeting established timelines and documenting information into ChildPlus data management system.
- Notify the Education/Disabilities Manager and complete paperwork to access the services of a Mental Health Consultant for observation of classroom and/or individual child. Include recommendations of consultants into individual or classroom planning.
- Prepare and maintain monthly paperwork, reports and turn in according to established timelines.
- Mentor and give direction to classroom Child Care Teacher, classroom substitutes and classroom volunteers.
- Conduct at least 2 home visits and 2 parent/teacher conferences with each family per school year.
- Establish a family friendly classroom by greeting parent’s daily, encouraging volunteerism, and engaging parents in curriculum planning through use of the posted Parent Idea Wheel.
- Report suspected incidences of child abuse/neglect to Supervisor and complete in detail reporting documentation and make report to CPS and or/Suquamish Tribal Police as mandated
- Participate in annual revision of work plan, and annual self-assessment as requested
- Maintain Professional Development Plan goals that meet a minimum of 15 training hours per year and may include college coursework, conference travel, classroom observation, and videotaped observations.
- Participate in required meetings and trainings including Family Staffing, Early Childhood specific Training, In-Service Day trainings, Quarterly Teacher meetings, monthly team meetings and others as designated by Education/Disabilities Manager or Program Management.
- Notify teaching team and Education/Disabilities Manager of absence from work with as much advance notice as possible, with an hour minimum notice.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and/or Experience:
- At a minimum, an ECE initial certificate; preferred Associate’s Degree or higher in Early Childhood Education or closely related behavioral field with at least two years’ experience working with young children.
- Must have good written and verbal communication skills, concern for and understanding of low- income families.
- Demonstrated ability to achieve educational/social outcomes with at-risk children/families.
- Must have reliable transportation to use on the job.
- Must be willing to work as a team member.
- Must be aware of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) related to free appropriate education to all children with disabilities identified as needing special education and related services.
- Must have interest and understanding of Suquamish Tribal culture.
Health Requirements:
- TB skin test within 30 days of employment.
- CPR/First Aid Training.
- Initial physical exam within three months of employment, every two years thereafter.
- Food Handlers Permit.
- HIV/AIDS/Blood Borne Pathogens Training.
- Good personal hygiene and grooming.
Essential Physical/Mental functions:
- Position requires intermittent sitting, standing, walking, twisting and bending.
- Must be able to get down on the child’s eye level and floor.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Simple grasping and hand manipulation required as well as reaching above and below shoulder level.
- Must be able to withstand exposure to noise in an early childhood environment.
- Must be mentally alert and able to react quickly and appropriately when dealing with young children.
- Must be able to build secure, nurturing relationships with children and families.
- Must display a positive affect while working with children.
- Must have a positive attitude in the work place.
- Requires accuracy, good communication, judgment, and the ability to remain calm and provide appropriate advice and information.
- Must be able to exhibit regular attendance.
