Summit School is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Lower School Music Lead Teacher to join our team. If you are a creative and forward-thinking educator who wants to design a curriculum where students don't just "learn songs," but explore the depth of musical artistry, we want to hear from you.
Position Overview
As the Lower School Music Lead Teacher, you will be responsible for developing and delivering a dynamic, age-appropriate music curriculum for grades 1-5. You will play a pivotal role in shaping the performing arts experience, ensuring students develop foundational skills—such as singing, and instrumental proficiency and notation—while fostering a sense of awe and wonder.
You will lead signature events like the First and Second Grade Sing and integrate music into our monthly division-wide gatherings. Joining a team committed to values of belonging and curiosity, you will partner closely with Early Childhood and Upper School faculty to ensure a "picket fence" (seamless) transition for students across all divisions.

Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Music Education required; Master’s degree and certification preferred.
- Experience: Proven experience developing and delivering engaging, interactive music lessons for elementary-aged children.
- Musical Artistry: High proficiency in singing and piano is required; ability in guitar/ukulele or percussion is a plus.
- Pedagogical Depth: Deep working knowledge of Orff, Kodály, or Dalcroze approaches, and an understanding of child development across the elementary grades.
- Technical Savvy: Familiarity with music notation software and digital audio workstations to modernize the student experience.
- Communication & Culture: Strong communication and organizational skills with the ability to create an inclusive environment where children with different learning profiles flourish.
- Leadership: A "can-do" approach to leading musical performances and a willingness to contribute to division-wide faculty teams.
- Commitment: A proven commitment to personal professional development and putting expertise into daily practice to improve student learning.
Physical Requirements

Must be able to traverse the campus and adjust one's tone and height by bending or leaning in order to teach children.

Must be able to provide adequate supervision to students in varied settings, including outdoor classrooms and the greenhouse.

Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds and perform standard classroom/lab tasks.
