TEACHER, 3RD GRADE TRIAD ACADEMY

(Full-time, 7:45 to 4pm, Monday through Friday)

Quality of mind, passion for teaching, and a commitment to the education of dyslexic students are essential. Expert knowledge and an understanding of best practices in the field of remediation of language based learning differences are strongly desired. Preference will be given to candidates who have training in the Orton-Gillingham approach to multisensory, structured language education. In addition, the position requires the ability to work collaboratively within a grade level team and to communicate effectively with parents. Summit’s Triad Academy Lower School

Our Lower School is committed to progressive principles of education. Respect for children and confidence in their natural capacity to learn—and to enjoy learning--are key. The program at all grade levels centers on experiential learning within an integrated curriculum. Our approach emphasizes a nurturing environment and challenging curriculum that includes open-ended inquiry and problem solving, collaborative projects, and exposure to a wide range of learning experiences.  The teacher role is a fully professional one: in addition to taking full responsibility for students’ learning in core subject areas and their emotional growth, classroom teachers individually and collectively are the creators of the curriculum.  The faculty is actively engaged in ongoing professional learning and curriculum development, both as grade level teams and in division-wide initiatives. 

 Specific qualifications include:

• An orientation toward a progressive philosophy and an experiential approach to learning.

• Formal training in education, special education, or science education (M.A., M.Ed.,or M.A.T. preferred) 

• Formal training in multisensory, structured language education (at a minimum Associate level A.O.G.P.E.) preferred.  

• Classroom experience working with elementary grades and/or dyslexic students  (3 years) strongly preferred

• Experience in curriculum development 

• Demonstrated strength in teaching language arts for both conceptual understanding and skill mastery.
